The genome sequence of allopolyploid Brassica juncea and analysis of differential homoeolog gene expression influencing selection
Jinghua Yang,Dongyuan Liu,Xiaowu Wang,Changmian Ji,Feng Cheng,Baoning Liu,Zhongyuan Hu,Sheng Chen,Deepak Pental,Youhui Ju,Pu Yao,Xuming Li,Kun Xie,Jianhui Zhang,Jianlin Wang,Fan Liu,Weiwei Ma,Jannat Shopan,Hongkun Zheng,Sally A. Mackenzie,Mingfang Zhang +20 more
TL;DR: An allopolyploid Brassica juncea genome was assembled by shotgun and single-molecule reads integrated to genomic and genetic maps and it was discovered that the A subgenomes of B.juncea and Brassica napus each had independent origins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative mapping of Brassica juncea and Arabidopsis thaliana using Intron Polymorphism (IP) markers: homoeologous relationships, diversification and evolution of the A, B and C Brassica genomes
Priya Panjabi,Arun Jagannath,Naveen C. Bisht,K Lakshmi Padmaja,Sarita Sharma,Vibha Gupta,Akshay K. Pradhan,Deepak Pental +7 more
TL;DR: The inter-relationships established between the Brassica lineages vis-à-vis Arabidopsis would facilitate the identification and isolation of candidate genes contributing to traits of agronomic value in crop Brassicas and the development of unified tools for Brassica genomics.

A novel cytoplasmic male sterility system for brassica species and its use for hybrid seed production in indian oilseed mustard brassica juncea
Yashpal Singh Sodhi,Akshay K. Pradhan,Vibha Guptha,N. Arumugam,Jagdish Kumar Verma,Arundhati Mukhopadhyay,Deepak Pental +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) 126-1 in Brassica species is described and a method for obtaining male sterile lines using the said CMS is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strategies for Development of Functionally Equivalent Promoters with Minimum Sequence Homology for Transgene Expression in Plants: cis-Elements in a Novel DNA Context versus Domain Swapping
Simran Bhullar,Suma Chakravarthy,Sonia Advani,Sudipta Datta,Deepak Pental,Pradeep Kumar Burma +5 more
TL;DR: The present strategy opens up the possibility of creating a set of synthetic promoters with minimum sequence homology and with expression levels comparable with the wild-type prototype by modifying sequences present between cis-elements for transgene expression in plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phytogeny of Brassica and allied genera based on variation in chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA patterns: molecular and taxonomic classifications are incongruous
TL;DR: Phenetic clusterings indicated a clear division of Brassica coenospecies into two distinct lineages referred to as the Brassica and Sinapis lineages, and the retention of this species in the genus Diplotaxis is proposed.
