Journal ArticleDOI
Deterministic earthquake scenario for the Basel area: Simulating strong motions and site effects for Basel, Switzerland
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present ground motion simulations for earthquake scenarios for the city of Basel and its vicinity using a two-step hybrid three-dimensional (3-D) finite difference (FD) method.
Subsurface Fluid Pressure and Rock Deformation Monitoring using Seismic Velocity Observations
Joseph Doetsch,Valentin Gischig,Linus Villiger,Hannes Krietsch,Morteza Nejati,Florian Amann,Reza Jalali,Claudio Madonna,Hansruedi Maurer,Stefan Wiemer,Thomas Driesner,Domenico Giardini +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that volumetric strain resulting from effective stress changes is sensed by seismic velocity, while shear dislocation is not, and demonstrate a strong potential of seismic velocity monitoring for remotely estimating fluid pressure changes in deep reservoirs, along faults, or in volcanic systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Including seismic risk mitigation measures into the Levelized Cost Of Electricity in enhanced geothermal systems for optimal siting
Arnaud Mignan,Arnaud Mignan,Dimitrios Karvounis,Marco Broccardo,Stefan Wiemer,Domenico Giardini +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a meta-model is introduced that estimates the optimal price of electricity, based on an analytical geothermal energy model, and updates this cost to include the outlay for mandatory seismic risk mitigation measures.
