Journal ArticleDOI
Risk models in abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery; useful for policy makers or patients?
TL;DR: Not only postoperative mortality but also morbidity should be taken into account in preoperative risk stratification as patients with a nonfatal cardiac event have a 2-fold increased risk of mortality within 1 year after surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevention of acute coronary events in noncardiac surgery: beta-blocker therapy and coronary revascularization.
Willem-Jan Flu,Jan-Peter van Kuijk,Tamara A. Winkel,Sanne E. Hoeks,Jeroen J. Bax,Don Poldermans +5 more
TL;DR: An extended overview of leading observational studies, randomized, controlled trials, meta-analyses and guidelines assessing perioperative β-blocker therapy and prophylactic coronary revascularization is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prolonged-release nicotinic acid in patients with atherosclerotic disease in the Netherlands.
TL;DR: The use of the prolonged-release nicotinic acid Niaspan in patients with or at risk for atherosclerotic disease showed good tolerability, a marked increase in HDL cholesterol and a reduced cardiovascular risk score.
Journal ArticleDOI
Benefits of coronary revascularisation in diabetic and non‐diabetic patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy: Role of myocardial viability
Vittoria Rizzello,Don Poldermans,Elena Biagini,Arend F.L. Schinkel,Eric Boersma,Abdou Elhendy,Fabiola B. Sozzi,Alexander P.W.M. Maat,Jos R.T.C. Roelandt,Jeroen J. Bax +9 more
TL;DR: The relation between myocardial viability, diabetes, coronary revascularisation and outcome was evaluated and diabetes mellitus in patients with coronary artery disease is associated with poor outcome.
Journal Article
The prognostic value of dobutamine stress echocardiography in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and concomitant coronary artery disease.
TL;DR: This review will focus on the additional prognostic value of dobutamine stress echocardiography for perioperative and late prognosis in patients with AAA and CAD.
