Journal ArticleDOI
DWI-FLAIR mismatch for the identification of patients with acute ischaemic stroke within 4·5 h of symptom onset (PRE-FLAIR): a multicentre observational study
Götz Thomalla,Bastian Cheng,Martin Ebinger,Qing Hao,Thomas Tourdias,Ona Wu,Jong S. Kim,Lorenz Breuer,Oliver C. Singer,Steven Warach,Soren Christensen,András Treszl,Nils D. Forkert,Ivana Galinovic,Michael Rosenkranz,Tobias Engelhorn,Martin Köhrmann,Matthias Endres,Dong-Wha Kang,Vincent Dousset,A. Gregory Sorensen,David S Liebeskind,Jochen B. Fiebach,Jens Fiehler,Christian Gerloff +24 more
TL;DR: In this article, a mismatch in visibility of acute ischaemic lesion between diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI was used to detect patients within the recommended time window for thrombolysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early blood-brain barrier disruption in human focal brain ischemia
Lawrence L. Latour,Dong-Wha Kang,Mustapha A. Ezzeddine,Mustapha A. Ezzeddine,Julio A. Chalela,Steven Warach +5 more
TL;DR: In addition to baseline severity (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score >6), early BBB disruption was found to be an independent predictor of HT, and may be a promising target for adjunctive therapy to reduce the complications associated with thrombolytic therapy, broaden the therapeutic window, and improve clinical outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cryptogenic Stroke and High-Risk Patent Foramen Ovale: The DEFENSE-PFO Trial
Pil Hyung Lee,Jae Kwan Song,Jae Kwan Song,Jong S. Kim,Ran Heo,Sahmin Lee,Dae-Hee Kim,Jong Min Song,Duk Hyun Kang,Sun U. Kwon,Dong-Wha Kang,Dongwhane Lee,Hyuk Sung Kwon,Sung Cheol Yun,Byung Joo Sun,Jae Hyeong Park,Jae-Hwan Lee,Hye Seon Jeong,Hee-Jung Song,Jei Kim,Seung-Jung Park +20 more
TL;DR: PFO closure in patients with high-risk PFO characteristics resulted in a lower rate of the primary endpoint as well as stroke recurrence, as evaluated by transesophageal echocardiography.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stroke Statistics in Korea: Part I. Epidemiology and Risk Factors: A Report from the Korean Stroke Society and Clinical Research Center for Stroke
Keun-Sik Hong,Oh Young Bang,Dong-Wha Kang,Kyung Ho Yu,Hee-Joon Bae,Jin Soo Lee,Ji Hoe Heo,Sun U. Kwon,Chang Wan Oh,Byung-Chul Lee,Jong Seung Kim,Byung Woo Yoon +11 more
TL;DR: Korea had the lowest in-hospital 30-day case-fatality rate for ischemic stroke and ranked third lowest for hemorrhagic stroke in 2009 and over the last 10 years, the prevalence of hypertension slightly decreased, but the prevalenceof diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and obesity increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Ischemic Lesion Patterns on Early Diffusion-Weighted Imaging with TOAST Stroke Subtypes
TL;DR: Early DWI lesion patterns are associated with specific stroke causes, and conventional 15-mm criteria for lacunes, however, may underestimate the diagnosis of small-vessel occlusion with DWI.
