Mathematical programming and meta-heuristics are two types of optimization methods. Meta-heuristic algorithms can identify optimal/near-optimal solutions by mimicking natural behaviours or occurrences and provide benefits such as simplicity of execution, a few parameters, avoidance of local optimization, and flexibility. Many meta-heuristic algorithms have been introduced to solve optimization issues, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. Studies and research on presented meta-heuristic algorithms in prestigious journals showed they had good performance in solving hybrid, improved and mutated problems. This paper reviews the sparrow search algorithm (SSA), one of the new and robust algorithms for solving optimization problems. This paper covers all the SSA literature on variants, improvement, hybridization, and optimization. According to studies, the use of SSA in the mentioned areas has been equal to 32%, 36%, 4%, and 28%, respectively. The highest percentage belongs to Improved, which has been analyzed by three subsections: Meat-Heuristics, artificial neural networks, and Deep Learning.

Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is a stochastic local search method that has been inspired by the pheromone trail laying and following behavior of some ant species [1]. Artificial ants in ACO essentially are randomized construction procedures that generate solutions based on (artificial) pheromone trails and heuristic information that are associated to solution components. Since the first ACO algorithm has been proposed in 1991, this algorithmic method has attracted a large number of researchers and in the meantime it has reached a significant level of maturity. In fact, ACO is now a well-established search technique for tackling a wide variety of computationally hard problems.

The concept of digital twinning has become a hot topic in the manufacturing industry in recent years. The emerging digital twin technology is an intelligent technology that makes full use of multimodels, big data, and interdisciplinary knowledge, which provides some new approaches for the field of the intelligent manufacturing industry. The job shop scheduling problem has been an important research field in the discrete manufacturing industry. Digital twin technology is adopted to solve the problem of job shop scheduling, which provides the possibility for the intelligent development of workshops. Based on digital twin technology and combined with the actual problem of production line scheduling, we propose a new intelligent scheduling platform to solve the shop scheduling problems above. Meanwhile, based on the prediction and diagnosis of multisource dynamic interference in the workshop production process by big data analysis technology, the corresponding interference strategy is formulated in advance by the scheduling cloud platform. The model simulation experiment of intelligent dispatching cloud platform was carried out, and some enterprises in intelligent manufacturing workshop were taken as examples to verify the superiority of the dispatching cloud platform. Finally, we look forward to the future research direction of intelligent manufacturing based on digital twin technology.

Job Shop Scheduling Based on Digital Twin Technology: A Survey and an Intelligent Platform

Key Technologies and Application Prospects of Ubiquitous Power Internet of Things

Whale optimization algorithm (WOA), known as a novel nature-inspired swarm optimization algorithm, demonstrates superiority in handling global continuous optimization problems. However, its performance deteriorates when applied to large-scale complex problems due to rapidly increasing execution time required for huge computational tasks. Based on interactions within the population, WOA is naturally amenable to parallelism, prompting an effective approach to mitigate the drawbacks of sequential WOA. In this paper, field programmable gate array (FPGA) is used as an accelerator, of which the high-level synthesis utilizes open computing language (OpenCL) as a general programming paradigm for heterogeneous System-on-Chip. With above platform, a novel parallel framework of WOA named PWOA is presented. The proposed framework comprises two feasible parallel models called partial parallel and all-FPGA parallel, respectively. Experiments are conducted by performing WOA on CPU and PWOA on OpenCL-based FPGA heterogeneous platform, to solve ten well-known benchmark functions. Meanwhile, other two classic algorithms including particle swarm optimization (PSO) and competitive swarm optimizer (CSO) are adopted for comparison. Numerical results show that the proposed approach achieves a promising computational performance coupled with efficient optimization on relatively large-scale complex problems.

Improving the Performance of Whale Optimization Algorithm through OpenCL-Based FPGA Accelerator

On the Power System Large-Scale Blackout in Brazil

The heat exchanger has been widely used in the energy and chemical industry and plays an irreplaceable role in the featured applications. The design of heat exchanger is a mixed integer complex optimization problem, where the efficient design significantly improves the efficiency and reduces the cost. Many intelligent methods have been developed for heat exchanger optimal design. In this paper, a novel variant of sine and cosine algorithm named EDOLSCA is proposed, enhanced by dynamic opposite learning algorithm and the elite strategy. The proposed method is tested in CEC2014 benchmark and proved to be of significant advantages over the original algorithm. The new algorithm is then validated in the plate-fin heat exchanger (PFHE) optimal design problem. The comparison results of the proposed algorithm and other algorithms prove that EDOLSCA also has demonstrated superiority in heat exchanger optimal design.
