Journal ArticleDOI

Additive manufacturing of PLA structures using fused deposition modelling: Effect of process parameters on mechanical properties and their optimal selection

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of build orientation, layer thickness and feed rate on the mechanical performance of PLA samples manufactured with a low-cost 3D printer is investigated, where tensile and three-point bending tests are carried out to determine the mechanical response of the printed specimens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Additive manufacturing of continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites using fused deposition modelling: Effect of process parameters on mechanical properties

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of build orientation, layer thickness and fiber volume content on the mechanical performance of 3D printed continuous fiber reinforced composites components manufactured by a desktop 3D printer was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Additive Manufacturing of PLA-Based Composites Using Fused Filament Fabrication: Effect of Graphene Nanoplatelet Reinforcement on Mechanical Properties, Dimensional Accuracy and Texture.

TL;DR: The promising results in the present study prove the feasibility of 3D printed PLA-graphene composites for potential use in different applications such as biomedical engineering.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dimensional and Surface Texture Characterization in Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) with ABS plus

TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the dimensional accuracy, flatness, and surface texture obtained in FDM rapid prototype with ABS-plus as the model material, and the best finish surface and minimum flatness error were obtained with less layer thickness (0.178mm) and solid density (100%).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical and Geometric Performance of PLA-Based Polymer Composites Processed by the Fused Filament Fabrication Additive Manufacturing Technique

TL;DR: The use of short carbon fibre as reinforcement did not affect the dimensional accuracy of the PLA-CF samples, and even improved the surface roughness in certain cases, particularly in Flat and On-edge orientations.
