Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of acoustic emission signals and monitoring of machining processes

TL;DR: The results show that, in spite of the complexity of the turning process, the state of the process can be well characterized by just a few proper characteristics extracted from a representative sensor signal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using coarse-grained entropy rate to detect chatter in cutting

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for chatter detection in turning on a lathe is introduced, which exploits a significant change of cutting dynamics caused by the onset of chatter The changes are reflected in both dynamical and statistical characteristics, and the transition from chatter free cutting to chatter was achieved by a change of either cutting depth or turning frequency.
Journal ArticleDOI

A New Method for Chatter Detection in Grinding

TL;DR: A new method for automatic chatter detection in outer-diameter grinding is proposed which exploits significant changes in grinding dynamics caused by the onset of chatter based on monitoring of a non-linear statistic called the coarse-grained entropy rate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Time Series Analysis in Metal Cutting: Chatter Versus Chatter-Free Cutting

TL;DR: In this paper, the time series of cutting force under two different regimes of turning on a lathe were analyzed and the differences in the dynamics of the two cutting regimes were exploited successfully for the purpose of chatter detection.
