TL;DR: It is shown for general cognitive ability that, to the contrary, genetic influence increases with age, and this finding suggests new ways of thinking about the interface between nature and nurture during the school years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aerobic fitness and the physiological stress response: a critical evaluation.
TL;DR: It is argued that the measurement of complete response patterns, instead of isolated parameters, is a prerequisite for progress in this field and what the relative contribution of psychological and physiological factors is to the effect of fitness on the physiological stress response should be addressed.
Book ChapterDOI
Aerobic Exercise and Stress Reduction
E.J.C. de Geus,Janine H. Stubbe +1 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the commonly held belief in the stress-alleviating effects of exercise seems to derive mostly from its acute and short-lasting mood effects, and clear beneficial effects of training have been shown on all disease risk factors.
