Journal ArticleDOI
First laser cooling of relativistic ions in a storage ring
S. Schröder,R. Klein,N. Boos,M. Gerhard,R. Grieser,G. Huber,A. Karafillidis,M. Krieg,N. Schmidt,T. Kühl,Reinhard Neumann,Victor I. Balykin,Manfred Grieser,Dietrich Habs,E. Jaeschke,D. Krämer,Martin Kristensen,M. Music,W. Petrich,Dirk Schwalm,Peter Sigray,M. Steck,B. Wanner,Andreas Wolf +23 more
TL;DR: A 7 Li + -ion beam was overlapped with resonant copropagating and counter- propagating laser beams and a strongly enhanced narrow peak appeared in the Schottky noise spectrum in addition to the uncooled ion distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of laser-induced recombination in merged electron and proton beams.
Ulrich Schramm,Jürgen Berger,Manfred Grieser,Dietrich Habs,E. Jaeschke,G. Kilgus,Dirk Schwalm,Andreas Wolf,Reinhard Neumann,Reinhold Schuch +9 more
TL;DR: The first observation of laser-induced recombination, performed with merged beams of protons, electrons, and laser photons in an ion storage ring, is reported and could be well described by a simple extension of the field-free quantum-mechanical theory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dielectronic recombination of hydrogenlike oxygen in a heavy-ion storage ring.
G. Kilgus,Jürgen Berger,P. Blatt,Manfred Grieser,Dietrich Habs,B. Hochadel,E. Jaeschke,D. Krämer,R. Neumann,G. Neureither,W. Ott,Dirk Schwalm,Markus Steck,R. Stokstad,E. Szmola,Andreas Wolf,Reinhold Schuch,Alfred Müller,M. Wagner +18 more
TL;DR: Determination des energies et sections efficaces pour plusieurs etats de la configuration 2l2l' (avec n≥3) pour 90% de la section efficace totale.
Journal ArticleDOI
First experiments with the heidelberg test storage ring TSR
Dietrich Habs,W. Baumann,J. Berger,P. Blatt,A. Faulstich,P. Krause,G. Kilgus,R. Neumann,W. Petrich,R. Stokstad,D. Schwalm,E. Szmola,K. Welti,Andreas Wolf,S. Zwickler,E. Jaeschke,D. Krämer,G. Bisoffi,M. Blum,A. Friedrich,C. Geyer,Manfred Grieser,H.W. Heyng,B. Holzer,R. Ihde,M. Jung,K. Matl,W. Ott,Bogdan Povh,Roland Repnow,M. Steck,E. Steffens,D. Dutta,T. Kühl,D. Marx,S. Schröder,M. Gerhard,R. Grieser,G. Huber,R. Klein,M. Krieg,N. Schmidt,R. Schuch,James Babb,Larry Spruch,W. Arnold,A. Noda +46 more
TL;DR: The Heidelberg heavy ion test storage ring TSR started operation in May 1988 and the first experiments were performed in 1989 as mentioned in this paper, where the lifetime of the ion beams observed in the first experiment can be explained by interactions with the residual gas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electron cooling of heavy ions
M. Steck,G. Bisoffi,M. Blum,A. Friedrich,C. Geyer,Manfred Grieser,B. Holzer,E. Jaeschke,M. Jung,D. Krämer,K. Matl,W. Ott,Roland Repnow +12 more
TL;DR: The electron cooling device of the Heidelberg cooler storage ring has come into operation and for the first time has cooled ions heavier than protons as mentioned in this paper, and it has proven that the cooling force is increasing with the charge of the ion.
