Shear rate in stirred tank and bubble column bioreactors
J.A. Sánchez Pérez,E.M. Rodríguez Porcel,J.L. Casas López,J. M. Fernández Sevilla,Yusuf Chisti +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a rigorous theoretical analysis is used to show that for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian power law fluids agitated in stirred vessels, the average shear rate γ in the fluid is a function of the rotational speed N of the impeller.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pellet morphology, culture rheology and lovastatin production in cultures of Aspergillus terreus.
J.L. Casas López,J.A. Sánchez Pérez,J. M. Fernández Sevilla,E.M. Rodríguez Porcel,Yusuf Chisti +4 more
TL;DR: Both an upper limit on agitation intensity and a high level of dissolved oxygen are essential for attaining high titers of lovastatin in fungal pellet morphology and broth rheology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of pellet morphology on broth rheology in fermentations of Aspergillus terreus
E.M. Rodríguez Porcel,J.L. Casas López,J.A. Sánchez Pérez,J. M. Fernández Sevilla,Yusuf Chisti +4 more
TL;DR: The biomass concentration and the pellet diameter were the main factors that influenced the flow index and the consistency index of the power-law broths and pellet size and morphology were not influenced by oxygen mass transfer effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simultaneous Determination of Oxygen Consumption Rate and Volumetric Oxygen Transfer Coefficient in Pneumatically Agitated Bioreactors
J.L. Casas López,E.M. Rodríguez Porcel,I. Oiler Alberola,M.M. Ballesteros Martín,J.A. Sánchez Pérez,J. M. Fernández Sevilla,Yusuf Chisti +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new approach is proposed for the simultaneous determination of the volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient (KLa) and the oxygen uptake rate (OUR) in bioreactors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced production of lovastatin in a bubble column by Aspergillus terreus using a two-stage feeding strategy
TL;DR: The two- stage feeding method increased lovastatin production rate by more than 50% in comparison with the conventional batch operation and rheological data for the fungal broth are presented.
