Beach morphodynamics and types of foredune erosion generated by storms along the Emilia-Romagna coastline, Italy

TL;DR: In this article, the response of a dune and beach system on the Adriatic coastline in northern Italy to the arrival of storms, compare it with seasonal (months) and medium-term (3-year) morphodynamic change, and evaluate results predicted by the numerical model XBeach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Universal characteristics of particle shape evolution by bed-load chipping

TL;DR: It is shown that bed-load transport selects three constraints, providing the foundation to estimate a particle’s attrition rate from its shape alone in most sedimentary environments, and may be used to determine the contribution of attrition to downstream fining in rivers and deserts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Local-scale post-event assessments with GPS and UAV-based quick-response surveys: a pilot case from the Emilia–Romagna (Italy) coast

TL;DR: In this article, a quick-response protocol for post-event assessment was tested on a pilot site on the Emilia-Romagna (Italy) coast in the aftermath of an extreme meteorological event that occurred in February 2015.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impressive abrasion rates of marked pebbles on a coarse-clastic beach within a 13-month timespan

TL;DR: In this paper, the volume loss recorded on indigenous pebbles within a 13-month timespan was evaluated by calculating the volume losses recorded on pebble within a coarse-clastic beach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Short- and medium-term response to storms on three Mediterranean coarse-grained beaches

TL;DR: In this paper, the storm response of three Italian coarse-grained beaches was investigated to better understand the morphodynamics of coarse-clastic beaches in a microtidal context, two of the studied sites are located on the eastern side of the country (Portonovo and Sirolo) and the third one (Marina di Pisa) is on the western side.
