Journal ArticleDOI
Helicobacter pylori Infection and Gastric Lymphoma
Julie Parsonnet,Svein Hansen,Larissa V. Rodriguez,Arnold B. Gelb,Roger A. Warnke,Egil Jellum,Norman Orentreich,Joseph H. Vogelman,Gary D. Friedman +8 more
TL;DR: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma affecting the stomach, but not other sites, is associated with previous H. pylori infection, and a causative role for the organism is plausible, but remains unproved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human Papillomavirus Infection as a Risk Factor for Squamous-Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck
Jon Mork,Anne Kveim Lie,Eystein Glattre,G. Hallmans,Egil Jellum,Pentti Koskela,Bjørn Møller,Eero Pukkala,John T. Schiller,Linda Youngman,Matti Lehtinen,Joakim Dillner,Joakim Dillner +12 more
TL;DR: HPV-16 infection may be a risk factor for squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck in subjects who were seropositive for HPV-16, and no increased risk was observed for other HPV types.
Journal ArticleDOI
Both high and low levels of blood vitamin D are associated with a higher prostate cancer risk: a longitudinal, nested case-control study in the Nordic countries.
Pentti Tuohimaa,Leena Tenkanen,Merja H. Ahonen,Sonja Lumme,Egil Jellum,Göran Hallmans,Pär Stattin,Sverre Harvei,Timo Hakulinen,Tapio Luostarinen,Joakim Dillner,Matti Lehtinen,Matti Hakama +12 more
TL;DR: A longitudinal nested case‐control study on Nordic men using serum banks of 200,000 samples found that both low and high 25(OH)‐vitamin D serum concentrations are associated with higher prostate cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hodgkin's disease and Epstein-Barr virus. Altered antibody pattern before diagnosis.
Nancy Mueller,Alfred S. Evans,Nancy L. Harris,George W. Comstock,Egil Jellum,Knut Magnus,Norman Orentreich,B. Frank Polk,Joseph H. Vogelman +8 more
TL;DR: The development of Hodgkin's disease may in some patients be preceded by enhanced activation of Epstein-Barr virus, and associations were stronger in serum samples obtained at least three years before diagnosis than in serum sample obtained closer to diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serotypes of Chlamydia trachomatis and risk for development of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
Tarja Anttila,Pekka Saikku,Pentti Koskela,Aini Bloigu,Joakim Dillner,Irma Ikäheimo,Egil Jellum,Matti Lehtinen,Per Lenner,Timo Hakulinen,Ale Närvänen,Eero Pukkala,Steinar Thoresen,Linda Youngman,Jorma Paavonen +14 more
TL;DR: The results strengthen the evidence that there is a link between past C trachomatis infection and cervical SCC, and suggest increasing numbers of exposures to different C trACHomatis serotypes also increases risk.
