Journal Article
Involvement of beta-glucuronidase in intestinal microflora in the intestinal toxicity of the antitumor camptothecin derivative irinotecan hydrochloride (CPT-11) in rats.
Kiyoshi Takasuna,Takehiro Hagiwara,Masaaki Hirohashi,Michiyuki Kato,Mamoru Nomura,Eiichi Nagai,Tsuyoshi Yokoi,Tetsuya Kamataki +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that CPT-11-induced diarrhea would be attributable to the damage to the cecum, and that the inhibition of the beta-glucuronidase activity in the intestinal microflora is a major protective effect of antibiotics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protective Effects of Kampo Medicines and Baicalin against Intestinal Toxicity of a New Anticancer Camptothecin Derivative, Irinotecan Hydrochloride (CPT-11), in Rats
Kiyoshi Takasuna,Yoshio Kasai,Yutaka Kitano,Kazuhiko Mori,Reiko Kobayashi,Takehiro Hagiwara,Kohji Kakihata,Masaaki Hirohashi,Mamoru Nomura,Eiichi Nagai,Tetsuya Kamataki +10 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that the prophylactic use of Kampo medicines (TJ‐14 and TJ‐114) may be of value against CPT‐11‐induced intestinal toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preventive Effects of Salacia reticulata on Obesity and Metabolic Disorders in TSOD Mice
Tomoko Akase,Tsutomu Shimada,Yukiko Harasawa,Tomohide Akase,Yukinobu Ikeya,Yukinobu Ikeya,Eiichi Nagai,Eiichi Nagai,Seiichi Iizuka,Gojiro Nakagami,Shinji Iizaka,Hiromi Sanada,Masaki Aburada +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that Salacia extract has remarkable potential to prevent obesity and associated metabolic disorders including the development of metabolic syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salacia reticulata inhibits differentiation of 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
Tsutomu Shimada,Eiichi Nagai,Eiichi Nagai,Yukiko Harasawa,Michiru Watanabe,Michiru Watanabe,Kenichi Negishi,Tomoko Akase,Tomoko Akase,Yoshimichi Sai,Ken-ichi Miyamoto,Masaki Aburada +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the mechanism of action of Salacia reticulata with special attention to the adipocytes as the tissue primarily involved in the pathology of metabolic diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of UDP‐glucuronosyltransferase by Aglycons of Natural Glucuronides in Kampo Medicines Using SN‐38 as a Substrate
TL;DR: Three purified aglycons of natural glucuronides, baicalein, luteolin and glycyrrhetic acid, inhibited UDP‐GT activity towards SN‐38 as a substrate, and it is proposed that materials in Kampo (Japanese herbal) medicines could be used in vivo to decrease the enterohepatic circulation ofSN‐38 and other drugs.
