Journal ArticleDOI

Mycobacterium tuberculosis Strains of the Modern Sublineage of the Beijing Family Are More Likely To Display Increased Virulence than Strains of the Ancient Sublineage

TL;DR: The results showed that two of the three modern Beijing strains were highly pathogenic, exhibiting levels of virulence comparable with that of the epidemic Russian strain, and suggest that genetic alterations characteristic of the modern Beijing sublineage favor selection of highly virulent bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of exogenous stress protein 70 on the functional properties of human promonocytes through binding to cell surface and internalization.

TL;DR: The experiments performed to investigate the influence of Hsp/Hsc70 on the reaction of U-937 cells to differentiation stimuli demonstrated that the addition of the protein prior to PMA was able to inhibit binding of proper transcription factors to double-symmetry and cAMP-response elements of the c-fos early response gene promoter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and c-Jun-N-terminal kinase cascades enhances NF-κB-dependent gene transcription in BCG-stimulated macrophages through promotion of p65/p300 binding

TL;DR: The data obtained demonstrate that PI‐3K, JNK, and p38 MAPK activation by mycobacteria enhance NF‐κB‐driven gene expression contributing to the proinflammatory macrophage response, suggesting an indirect mechanism of the NF‐kkB regulation by these kinases.
