HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. In vivo effects on carotid intimal thickening in normocholesterolemic rabbits.
Maurizio R. Soma,Elena Donetti,Cinzia Parolini,G. Mazzini,C. Ferrari,R. Fumagalli,Rodolfo Paoletti +6 more
TL;DR: The in vivo activity of different 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitors (vastatins) on neointimal formation induced by insertion of a flexible collar around one carotid artery of normocholesterolemic rabbits was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of Class I Histone Deacetylases Unveils a Mitochondrial Signature and Enhances Oxidative Metabolism in Skeletal Muscle and Adipose Tissue
Andrea Galmozzi,Nico Mitro,Alessandra Ferrari,E. Gers,Federica Gilardi,C. Godio,Gaia Cermenati,Alice Gualerzi,Elena Donetti,Dante Rotili,Sergio Valente,Uliano Guerrini,Donatella Caruso,Antonello Mai,Enrique Saez,Emma De Fabiani,Maurizio Crestani +16 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that class I HDAC inhibitors may provide a pharmacologic approach to treating type 2 diabetes, and indicate that inhibition of HDAC3 may account for the beneficial effect of the class I–selective HDAC inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI
An over-oxidized form of superoxide dismutase found in sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis with bulbar onset shares a toxic mechanism with mutant SOD1
Stefania Guareschi,Emanuela Cova,Cristina Cereda,Mauro Ceroni,Elena Donetti,Daryl A. Bosco,Davide Trotti,Piera Pasinelli +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown here that indeed WT SOD1 is modified posttranslationally in sporadic ALS and is iper-oxidized (i.e., above baseline oxidation levels) in a subset of patients with bulbar onset, providing an opportunity to develop biomarkers to subclassify ALS and devise S OD1-based therapies that go beyond the small group of Patients with mutant SOD 1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene Transfer into the Carotid Artery Using an Adventitial Collar: Comparison of the Effectiveness of the Plasmid–Liposome Complexes, Retroviruses, Pseudotyped Retroviruses, and Adenoviruses
Marja Laitinen,T. Pakkanen,Elena Donetti,Roberta Baetta,Jukka Luoma,Pauliina Lehtolainen,Helena Viita,Reitu S. Agrawal,Atsushi Miyanohara,Theodore Friedmann,Werner Risau,John Martin,Maurizio R. Soma,Seppo Ylä-Herttuala +13 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that replication-deficient adenoviruses, VSV-G pseudotyped retroviruses, and plasmid/liposome complexes can be used for gene transfer to the arterial wall using the collar method.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recombinant Apolipoprotein A-IMilano Dimer Inhibits Carotid Intimal Thickening Induced by Perivascular Manipulation in Rabbits
Maurizio R. Soma,Elena Donetti,Cinzia Parolini,Cesare R. Sirtori,Remo Fumagalli,Guido Franceschini +5 more
TL;DR: Proliferation of smooth muscle cells, assessed by direct incorporation of bromo-2'-deoxyuridine into replicating DNA, was reduced by approximately 30% and 75% in the intimal and medial tissues of rA-IM/A- IM-pretreated rabbits.
