Journal ArticleDOI
A cell surface biotinylation assay to reveal membrane associated neuronal cues: Negr1 regulates dendritic arborization.
Francesca Pischedda,Joanna Szczurkowska,Maria Daniela Cirnaru,Florian Giesert,Elena Vezzoli,Marius Ueffing,Marius Ueffing,Carlo Sala,Maura Francolini,Stefanie M. Hauck,Laura Cancedda,Giovanni Piccoli +11 more
TL;DR: A cell surface biotinylation assay to isolate, detect, and quantify neuronal membrane proteins is developed and it is demonstrated that Negr1 controls the development of neurite arborization in vitro and in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Myosin IXa Binds AMPAR and Regulates Synaptic Structure, LTP, and Cognitive Function.
Alessandra Folci,Luca Murru,Elena Vezzoli,Luisa Ponzoni,Laura Gerosa,Edoardo Moretto,Fabiana Longo,Jonathan Zapata,Daniela Braida,Francesco Pistillo,Martin Bähler,Maura Francolini,Mariaelvina Sala,Silvia Bassani +13 more
TL;DR: A key role for Myo9a in controlling the molecular structure and function of hippocampal synapses is supported, and synaptic transmission, long-term potentiation (LTP) and cognitive functions were impaired in Myo 9a+/- mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
eEF2K/eEF2 Pathway Controls the Excitation/Inhibition Balance and Susceptibility to Epileptic Seizures
Christopher Heise,Elham Taha,Luca Murru,Luisa Ponzoni,Angela Cattaneo,Fabrizia C. Guarnieri,Caterina Montani,Adele Mossa,Elena Vezzoli,Giulio Ippolito,Jonathan Zapata,Iliana Barrera,Alexey G. Ryazanov,James M. Cook,Michael M. Poe,Michael Rajesh Stephen,Maksym V. Kopanitsa,Roberta Benfante,Francesco Rusconi,Daniela Braida,Maura Francolini,Christopher G. Proud,Christopher G. Proud,Flavia Valtorta,Maria Passafaro,Mariaelvina Sala,Angela Bachi,Chiara Verpelli,Kobi Rosenblum,Carlo Sala +29 more
TL;DR: It is shown that eEF2K activity negatively regulates GABAergic synaptic transmission and is identified as a potential novel target for antiepileptic drugs, since pharmacological and genetic inhibition of e EF2K can revert the epileptic phenotype in a mouse model of human epilepsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrastructural Evidence for a Role of Astrocytes and Glycogen-Derived Lactate in Learning-Dependent Synaptic Stabilization.
Elena Vezzoli,Elena Vezzoli,Corrado Calì,M. De Roo,Luisa Ponzoni,Elisa Sogne,Nicolas Gagnon,Maura Francolini,Daniela Braida,Mariaelvina Sala,Dominique Muller,Andrea Falqui,Pierre J. Magistretti +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that novel object recognition in mice as a learning task followed by 3D electron microscopy analysis induced all aforementioned synaptic changes, together with an increase in the size of astrocytic glycogen granules, which are a source of lactate for neurons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of neuromuscular junctions and effects of anabolic steroid administration in the SOD1G93A mouse model of ALS.
Valentina Cappello,Elena Vezzoli,Marco Righi,Matteo Fossati,Raffaella Mariotti,Arianna Crespi,Marco Vincenzo Patruno,Marina Bentivoglio,Grazia Pietrini,Maura Francolini +9 more
TL;DR: Fine structural alterations of diaphragm NMJs in the murine model of familial ALS at symptom onset are defined and indicate that nandrolone may prevent or delay structural alterations in NMJ mitochondria and stimulate presynaptic activity but does not prevent muscle denervation during the disease.
