Journal ArticleDOI
The involvement of polyphenols and peroxidase activities in heavy-metal accumulation by epidermal glands of the waterlily (Nymphaeaceae).
TL;DR: It is suggested that the polymerization of polyphenols by peroxidases, enhanced after heavy-metal uptake and detoxification, is responsible for the binding of heavy metals in Nymphaea epidermal glands.
Journal ArticleDOI
The accumulation and the effect of heavy metals on the water fern Azolla filiculoides
TL;DR: Azolla filiculoides Lamarck grown for 3-7 days in nutrient media containing 8-1 5 ppm of different heavy metals was found to contain cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel and zinc, while copper and chromium had less effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salt stress-induced responses in cucumber plants
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate the relationship between ROS scavenging activities and the degree of damage sustained by cucumber plants under salt stress, in a standardized assay system, and show that salt treatment with NaCl for 4 days resulted in reduced growth, increased leakage of solutes from the leaf tissue and modification of chloroplast structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Manganese nutrition effects on tomato growth, chlorophyll concentration, and superoxide dismutase activity.
TL;DR: The effects of Mn nutrition of tomato seedlings on Mn-, Fe- and CuZn-superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1) enzymatic activities, metal translocation, chlorophyll concentration, and plant growth were tested to suggest that growth inhibition and chlorophyLL synthesis were affected primarily by manganese deficiency and excess.
Journal ArticleDOI
Localization and Toxic Effects of Cadmium, Copper, and Uranium in Azolla
TL;DR: The storage and distribution of copper, cadmium, and uranium and their effects on ionic contents in roots and shoots of Azolla filiculoides has been studied by x-ray microanalysis, suggesting low mobility of this metal in Azolla plant.
