Prevalence and incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome in US working populations: pooled analysis of six prospective studies
Ann Marie Dale,Carisa Harris-Adamson,David Rempel,Fred Gerr,Fred Gerr,Kurt T. Hegmann,Barbara Silverstein,Susan Burt,Arun Garg,Jay Kapellusch,Linda Merlino,Matthew S. Thiese,Ellen A. Eisen,Bradley A. Evanoff +13 more
TL;DR: A common CTS case definition was established incorporating both symptoms and EDS results from data that were collected in all studies, and both prevalent and incident CTS were common in data pooled across multiple studies and sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of Association of Alcohol and Tobacco with HPV16-Associated Head and Neck Cancer
Katie M. Applebaum,C. Sloane Furniss,Ariana Zeka,Marshall R. Posner,Judith F. Smith,Janine T. Bryan,Ellen A. Eisen,Edward S. Peters,Michael D. McClean,Karl T. Kelsey +9 more
TL;DR: Alcohol or tobacco use does not further increase risk of HPV16-associated pharyngeal cancer, and HPV16 seropositivity was associated with a 30-fold increased risk of pharynGEal cancer among light drinkers or never smokers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparing smoothing techniques in Cox models for exposure-response relationships.
TL;DR: A measure of the difference between a pair of curves based on the area between them, standardized by the average of the areas under the couple of curves is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cotton dust and endotoxin exposure-response relationships in cotton textile workers.
Susan M. Kennedy,David C. Christiani,Ellen A. Eisen,David H. Wegman,Ian A. Greaves,Stephen A. Olenchock,Ting-Ting Ye,Pei-Lian Lu +7 more
TL;DR: No dose-response relationships were demonstrated comparing dust concentration to any pulmonary function or symptom variable and a dose- response trend was seen with the current endotoxin level and FEV1, delta FEV 1%, and the prevalence of byssinosis and chronic bronchitis, except for the highest exposure level group in which a reversal of the trend wasseen.
Journal ArticleDOI
The healthy worker effect in asthma: work may cause asthma, but asthma may also influence work.
TL;DR: The HWE is described as it relates to asthma research, and the significance of taking HWE bias into account in designing and interpreting asthma studies is discussed, as well as the importance of understanding Hwe bias for public health practitioners and for clinicians.
