Journal ArticleDOI
Coronaviruses - drug discovery and therapeutic options.
TL;DR: The epidemiology, virology, clinical features and current treatment strategies of SARS and MERS are summarized, and the discovery and development of new virus-based and host-based therapeutic options for CoV infections are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for camel-to-human transmission of MERS coronavirus
Esam I. Azhar,Sherif A. El-Kafrawy,Suha A. Farraj,Ahmed M. Hassan,Muneera S. Al-Saeed,Anwar M. Hashem,Tariq A. Madani +6 more
TL;DR: The isolation and sequencing of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus obtained from a dromedary camel and from a patient who died of laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infection after close contact with camels that had rhinorrhea suggest that this fatal case of human MSPV infection was transmitted throughclose contact with an infected camel.
Journal ArticleDOI
Culture of previously uncultured members of the human gut microbiota by culturomics
Jean-Christophe Lagier,Saber Khelaifia,Maryam Tidjani Alou,S. Ndongo,Niokhor Dione,Perrine Hugon,Aurelia Caputo,Frédéric Cadoret,Sory Ibrahima Traore,El hadji Seck,Grégory Dubourg,Guillaume André Durand,Gaël Mourembou,E. TL;DR: It is shown that the use of culturomics allows the culture of organisms corresponding to sequences previously not assigned, which doubles the number of species isolated at least once from the human gut.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reducing mortality from 2019-nCoV: host-directed therapies should be an option.
TL;DR: The timing of interferon treatment in patients with sepsis, resulting in increased survival, is studied and expansion of anti-2019nCoV-specific T cells, as cellular drugs, could aid to prepare T-cell products for the adjunct treatment of patients with severe 2019-n coV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus: risk factors and determinants of primary, household, and nosocomial transmission
David S.C. Hui,Esam I. Azhar,Yae Jean Kim,Ziad A. Memish,Ziad A. Memish,Myoung Don Oh,Alimuddin Zumla +6 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive update and synthesis of the latest available data on the epidemiology, determinants, and risk factors of primary, household, and nosocomial transmission of MERS-CoV are provided, and measures to reduce risk of transmission are suggested.
