The inflammasome promotes adverse cardiac remodeling following acute myocardial infarction in the mouse

TL;DR: The presence of the inflammasome in the mouse heart in an experimental mouse model of AMI as evidenced by increased caspase-1 activity and cytoplasmic aggregates of the three components of theInflammasomes may represent a unique therapeutic strategy to limit cell death and prevent heart failure after AMI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibition With Sildenafil Attenuates Cardiomyocyte Apoptosis and Left Ventricular Dysfunction in a Chronic Model of Doxorubicin Cardiotoxicity

TL;DR: Prophylactic treatment with sildenafil prevented apoptosis and left ventricular dysfunction in a chronic model of doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy and significantly protected against doxorbicin cardiotoxicity; however, this protection was abolished by both L-NAME and 5-hydroxydecanoate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sildenafil (Viagra) induces powerful cardioprotective effect via opening of mitochondrial KATP channels in rabbits

TL;DR: For the first time, it is demonstrated that sildenafil induces acute and delayed protective effects against ischemia-reperfusion injury, which are mediated by opening of mitochondrial K(ATP) channels.
