Journal ArticleDOI
Association between body mass index and sperm quality and sperm DNA integrity. A large population study
J. B. A. Oliveira,Claudia G. Petersen,A. L. Mauri,Laura D. Vagnini,Adriana Renzi,Bruna Petersen,Mariana Mattila,Felipe Dieamant,R. L. R. Baruffi,J. G. Franco +9 more
TL;DR: Given the adverse consequences of obesity and the possible effect of male BMI on assisted reproduction technology (ART) outcomes, the benefits of weight reduction should be discussed when counselling couples interested in fertility treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of the abstinence period on human sperm quality: analysis of 2,458 semen samples.
Vanessa A. Comar,Claudia G. Petersen,Ana L. Mauri,Mariana Mattila,Laura D. Vagnini,Adriana Renzi,Bruna Petersen,A. Nicoletti,Felipe Dieamant,Joao Batista A. Oliveira,Ricardo L. R. Baruffi,Jose G. Franco +11 more
TL;DR: This study reinforces the importance of the duration of ejaculatory abstinence on semen parameter variation and highlights the deleterious effect of increased abstinence on DNA damage, which is most likely associated with ROS (mitochondrial damage/number of leukocytes).
Journal ArticleDOI
Semen parameters in men with varicocele: DNA fragmentation, chromatin packaging, mitochondrial membrane potential, and apoptosis.
Felipe Dieamant,Claudia G. Petersen,Ana L. Mauri,Vanessa Conmar,Mariana Mattila,Laura D. Vagnini,Adriana Renzi,Bruna P Costa,Camila Zamara,Joao Batista A. Oliveira,Ricardo L. R. Baruffi,Jose G. Franco +11 more
TL;DR: Conventional semen parameters were significantly worse in individuals with the disease, and in men with varicocele, Spearman's correlation demonstrated that early apoptosis and abnormal MMP showed a positive and significant correlation with sperm DNA fragmentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effects of male age on sperm DNA damage: an evaluation of 2,178 semen samples.
Claudia G. Petersen,A.L. Mauri,Laura D. Vagnini,Adriana Renzi,Bruna Petersen,Mariana Mattila,Comar,Juliana Ricci,Felipe Dieamant,Oliveira Jba,Baruffi Rlr,J.G. Franco +11 more
TL;DR: The age-related increase in sperm DNA damage suggests that delaying childbearing, not only in women but also in men, might jeopardize a couple’s reproductive capacity and the increase seen in chromatin packaging might represent a protective feature for DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fresh embryos versus freeze-all embryos - transfer strategies: Nuances of a meta-analysis.
Felipe Dieamant,Claudia G. Petersen,Ana L. Mauri,Vanessa A. Comar,Mariana Mattila,Laura D. Vagnini,Adriana Renzi,Bruna Petersen,A. Nicoletti,J. B. A. Oliveira,R.L.R. Baruffi,Jose G. Franco +11 more
TL;DR: The freeze- all strategy could be favorable when high numbers of oocytes are collected, signaling an association between higher ovarian stimulation and consequent impairment of endometrial receptivity, but when the mean number of oocyte collected is <15, the freeze-all strategy does not appear to be advantageous.
