Journal ArticleDOI
Southern Ocean deep-water carbon export enhanced by natural iron fertilization
Raymond T. Pollard,Ian Salter,Richard Sanders,Mike Lucas,C. Mark Moore,Rachel A. Mills,Peter J. Statham,John T. Allen,Alex R. Baker,Dorothee C. E. Bakker,Matthew A. Charette,Sophie Fielding,Gary R. Fones,M. French,Anna E. Hickman,Ross J. Holland,J. Alan Hughes,Tim Jickells,Richard S. Lampitt,Paul J. Morris,Florence Nedelec,Maria C. Nielsdóttir,Hélène Planquette,Ekaterina Popova,Alex J. Poulton,J.F. Read,Sophie Seeyave,Tania Smith,Mark C. Stinchcombe,Sarah Taylor,Sandy J. Thomalla,Hugh J. Venables,Robert Williamson,Mike Zubkov +33 more
TL;DR: Data from the CROZEX experiment in the Southern Ocean is reported to test the hypothesis that the observed north–south gradient in phytoplankton concentrations in the vicinity of the Crozet Islands is induced by natural iron fertilization that results in enhanced organic carbon flux to the deep ocean.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dissolved iron in the vicinity of the Crozet Islands, Southern Ocean
Hélène Planquette,Peter J. Statham,Gary R. Fones,Matthew A. Charette,C. Mark Moore,Ian Salter,Florence Nedelec,Sarah Taylor,M. French,Alex R. Baker,Natalie M. Mahowald,Tim Jickells +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the hypothesis that natural iron fertilization can alleviate high-nutrient low-chlorophyll (HNLC) conditions normally associated with the Southern Ocean.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physiological state of phytoplankton communities in the Southwest Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean, as measured by fast repetition rate fluorometry
Claire L. Holeton,Florence Nedelec,Richard Sanders,L. Brown,C. Mark Moore,David P. Stevens,Karen J. Heywood,Peter J. Statham,Cathy H. Lucas +8 more
TL;DR: Measurements provide one of the first direct physiological confirmations that iron stress is alleviated in phytoplankton populations near South Georgia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Processes influencing dissolved iron distributions below the surface at the Atlantic Ocean–Celtic Sea shelf edge
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the influence that benthic interactions and water mass mixing may have on vertical distributions of dissolved iron in the Atlantic Ocean-Celtic Sea shelf break.
Nutriment Export Role on Eutrophisation. Indicators and model Scénarios (NEREIS)
Josette Garnier,Gilles Billen,Anniet M. Laverman,Céline Amsaleg,Olivier Tronquart,Anun Martinez,Benjamin Mercier,Philippe Riou,Romain Le Gendre,Philippe Cugier,Florence Nedelec +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a chaine de modelisation des tetes de bassins aux zones cotieres is discussed, and a discussion of the modele du bassin de la Seine (Seneque/Riverstrahler) avec un modele Estuaire/Baie de Seine 3D is performed.
