Journal ArticleDOI

Evolution of ancient satellite DNAs in sturgeon genomes

TL;DR: It is found that, in contrast to the situation in most other living beings, a high degree of preservation, a slow sequence change rate and slowed concerted evolution, appears to be a general rule for sturgeon satellite DNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genomic organization and evolution of the 5S ribosomal DNA in the ancient fish sturgeon

TL;DR: The results suggest that the evolution of the two parts of the 5S rDNA region cannot be explained exclusively as the outcome of a balance between mutational, homogenizing, and selective forces, and other factors might be superimposed over those forces and thus could to some extent be masking their effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of karyotypes of Acipenser oxyrinchus and A. sturio by chromosome banding and fluorescent in situ hybridization

TL;DR: The karyotype of A. oxyrinchus is described for the first time, and its features are revealed, among which the constitutive heterochromatin, revealed by C-banding technique, the distribution of telomeric regions, and the 5S rRNA genes, detected by FISH are revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic Identification of Western Mediterranean Sturgeons and its Implication for Conservation

TL;DR: This study demonstrates that A. naccarii coexists with A. sturio, from the Adriatic Sea to the Iberian Peninsula, a finding that could be taken into account in future sturgeon recovery programmes in Western Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of Marteilia refringens using nested PCR and in situ hybridisation in Chamelea gallina from the Balearic Islands (Spain).

TL;DR: The presence of this parasite in the digestive gland tissue of C. gallina was confirmed by means of in situ hybridisation analysis with a M. refringens-specific probe.
