Journal ArticleDOI
An improved method to recover saliva from human skin: the double swab technique.
TL;DR: The double swab technique showed the highest percentage recovery of saliva from human skin among the three methods studied, and is suggested as an improvement over the classical single wet cotton Swab technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
Telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter mutations in bladder cancer: high frequency across stages, detection in urine, and lack of association with outcome.
Yves Allory,Willemien Beukers,Ana Sagrera,Marta Flández,Miriam Marqués,Mirari Marquez,Kirstin A. van der Keur,Lars Dyrskjøt,Irene Lurkin,Marcel Vermeij,Alfredo Carrato,Josep Lloreta,José A. Lorente,Enrique Carrillo-de Santa Pau,Roy Masius,Manolis Kogevinas,Ewout W. Steyerberg,Angela A.G. van Tilborg,Cheno Abas,Torben F. Ørntoft,Tahlita C.M. Zuiverloon,Núria Malats,Ellen C. Zwarthoff,Francisco X. Real +23 more
TL;DR: Somatic TERT promoter mutations are an early, highly prevalent genetic event in UBC and are not associated with TERT mRNA levels or disease outcomes, and a SNaPshot assay in urine may help to detect UBC recurrences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent inactivation of STAG2 in bladder cancer is not associated with aneuploidy.
Cristina Balbás-Martínez,Ana Sagrera,Enrique Carrillo-de-Santa-Pau,Julie Earl,Mirari Marquez,Miguel Vazquez,Eleonora Lapi,Francesc Castro-Giner,Sergi Beltran,Mònica Bayés,Alfredo Carrato,Juan C. Cigudosa,Orlando Domínguez,Marta Gut,Jesús Herranz,Nuria Juanpere,Manolis Kogevinas,Xavier Langa,Elena Lopez-Knowles,José A. Lorente,Josep Lloreta,David G. Pisano,Laia Richart,Daniel Rico,Rocío Salgado,Adonina Tardón,Stephen J. Chanock,Simon Heath,Alfonso Valencia,Ana Losada,Ivo Gut,Núria Malats,Francisco X. Real +32 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that STAG2 is a new UBC tumor suppressor acting through mechanisms that are different from its role in preventing aneuploidy, and its loss was associated with improved outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum bone alkaline phosphatase levels enhance the clinical utility of prostate specific antigen in the staging of newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients.
TL;DR: It is suggested that serum BAP levels could play a complementary role in the diagnosis of bone metastasis in prostate cancer patients and the addition of this marker to PSA in the initial evaluation could permit staging bone scan to be avoided at a PSA range of 10–20 ng/ml, with significant implications for cost saving.
Journal ArticleDOI
The risk for depression conferred by stressful life events is modified by variation at the serotonin transporter 5HTTLPR genotype: evidence from the Spanish PREDICT-Gene cohort
Jorge A. Cervilla,Esther Molina,Margarita Rivera,Francisco Torres-González,Juan Ángel Bellón,Berta Moreno,Juan de Dios Luna,José A. Lorente,Fermín Mayoral,Michael King,Irwin Nazareth,Blanca Gutiérrez +11 more
TL;DR: Results from the PREDICT-Gene case-control study nested in a prospective cohort designed to identify predictors of the onset of depression among adult primary-care attendees showed that s/s homozygous participants required minimal exposure to TLE (1 TLE) to acquire a level of risk for depression that was only found among l/s or l/l individuals after significantly higher exposure toTLEs (two or more TLEs).
