A Randomized, Double-Blind Study of Larazotide Acetate to Prevent the Activation of Celiac Disease During Gluten Challenge

TL;DR: Lazotide acetate appeared to limit gluten-induced worsening of gastrointestinal symptom severity as measured by the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale at some lower doses but not at the higher dose, suggesting that 2.4 g of gluten per day is sufficient to induce reproducible gluten toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Peyer's Patch Dendritic Cells Process Viral Antigen from Apoptotic Epithelial Cells in the Intestine of Reovirus-infected Mice

TL;DR: These studies show that CD8α−/CD11blo DCs in the PP SED process T1L antigen from infected apoptotic epithelial cells for presentation to CD4+ T cells, and therefore demonstrate the cross-presentation of virally infected cells by DC's in vivo during a natural viral infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human small-intestinal epithelium contains functional natural killer lymphocytes.

TL;DR: This is the first demonstration of functional natural killer cells within the human gut epithelium and these cells might play an important role in innate mucosal immunity (host defense and tumor surveillance) and tolerance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Abuse liability and therapeutic potential of the Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) alkaloids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine

TL;DR: The present findings indicate that MG does not have abuse potential and reduces morphine intake, desired characteristics of candidate pharmacotherapies for opiate addiction and withdrawal, whereas 7‐HMG should be considered a kratom constituent with high abuse potential that may also increase the intake of other opiates.
