A research agenda to explore the role of conservation agriculture in African smallholder farming systems

TL;DR: In this article, the promotion of conservation agriculture (CA) in smallholder farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa is discussed, where the authors identify the situations for where CA (and which form of CA) is appropriate and make recommendations where research is required to address key knowledge gaps.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conservation agriculture cropping systems in temperate and tropical conditions, performances and impacts. A review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare experiences with conservation agriculture from the tropical Cerrado region of Brazil and from temperate conditions of Europe, focusing on agronomic performances, environmental impacts and economical results.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling crop residue mulching effects on water use and production of maize under semi-arid and humid tropical conditions

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of surface crop residue on water use and production risk associated with rainfall variability is analyzed for two contrasting tropical sites, La Tinaja in semi-arid Mexico and Planaltina in humid Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI

The yield gap of major food crops in family agriculture in the tropics: Assessment and analysis through field surveys and modelling

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed yield gaps of main staple rainfed crops across contrasting family farming systems in Senegal (millet, subsistence oriented systems), central Brazil (maize, market oriented systems) and Vietnam (machinery, upland rice, subsistence-oriented systems) in 2-3 agricultural seasons in a network of farmers' fields, covering the diversity of soils and farmers' management practices.
