The Three-dimensional Structure of Invertase (β-Fructosidase) from Thermotoga maritima Reveals a Bimodular Arrangement and an Evolutionary Relationship between Retaining and Inverting Glycosidases
TL;DR: The catalytic machinery of invertase is perfectly superimposable to that of the enzymes of families GH43 andGH68, and the variation in the position of the furanose ring at the site of cleavage explains the different mechanisms evident in families GH32 and GH68 (retaining) and GH43 (inverting) furanosidases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Crystal structure of inactivated Thermotoga maritima invertase in complex with the trisaccharide substrate raffinose
TL;DR: The structural analysis of the complex reveals the presence of three binding-subsites, which explains why T. maritima invertase exhibits a higher affinity for raffinose than sucrose, but a lower catalytic efficiency with rAffinose as substrate than with sucrose.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular and Physiological Characterisation of Spore Germination in Clostridium botulinum and C. sporogenes
Véronique Broussolle,François Alberto,Claire Shearman,David R. Mason,Lucien Botella,Christophe Nguyen-The,Michael W. Peck,Frédéric Carlin +7 more
TL;DR: Spore germination in proteolytic Clostridium botulinum type B and C. sporogenes was triggered strongly by L -alanine/ L -lactate/NaHCO3, but not by inosine or the AGFK mixture, which suggests the presence of a functional equivalent of the L-alanine receptor encoded by the gerA operon in Bacillus subtilis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variability in spore germination response by strains of proteolytic Clostridium botulinum types A, B and F.
TL;DR: Aims: The objective of the study was to evaluate the variability of germination response of 10 strains of proteolytic Clostridium botulinum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opposite and coordinated rotation of amphitrichous flagella governs oriented swimming and reversals in a magnetotactic spirillum
Dorothée Murat,Dorothée Murat,Marion Herisse,Leon Espinosa,Alicia Bossa,François Alberto,Long-Fei Wu,Long-Fei Wu +7 more
TL;DR: It is found that asymmetric rotation of the flagella enables cell runs whereas symmetric rotation triggers cell tumbling, and a conserved motility paradigm is proposed for spirillum-shaped bipolarly flagellated bacteria.
