Bacterial Pneumonia in COVID-19 critically ill patients: a case series.

TL;DR: Bacterial pneumonia in critically ill patients with COVID-19 diagnosed by bacterial cultures of blind bronchoalveolar lavage (BBAL) is reported, with significant rate of bacterial pneumonia, mostly late-onset VAP, in critically critically ill Patients with CO VID-19 in the authors' unit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Management of hyperkalemia in the acutely ill patient.

TL;DR: Treatment of hyperkalemia should not only focus on the ability of specific therapies to lower serum potassium level but also on their potential side effects, and Tailoring treatment to the patient condition and situation may limit the risks.
Journal ArticleDOI

What is the lowest change in cardiac output that transthoracic echocardiography can detect

TL;DR: Averaging three measurements within one TTE examination is enough for obtaining precise measurements for VTI in patients in sinus rhythm but not in patients with atrial fibrillation, which is not precise enough for assessing the effects of some tests predicting preload responsiveness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting Fluid Responsiveness in Critically Ill Patients by Using Combined End-Expiratory and End-Inspiratory Occlusions With Echocardiography

TL;DR: If consecutive end-inspiratory occlusion and end-expiratory Occlusion change velocity-time integral is greater than or equal to 13% in total, fluid responsiveness is accurately predicted, and this threshold is more compatible with the precision of echocardiography than that obtained by end- ExpiratoryOcclusion alone.
