We propose ShareVR, a proof-of-concept prototype using floor projection and mobile displays in combination with positional tracking to visualize the virtual world for the Non-HMD user, enabling them to interact with the HMD user and become part of the VR experience. We designed and implemented ShareVR based on the insights of an initial online survey (n=48) with early adopters of VR HMDs. We ran a user study (n=16) comparing ShareVRto a baseline condition showing how the interaction using ShareVR led to an increase of enjoyment, presence and social interaction. In a last step we implemented several experiences for ShareVR, exploring its design space and giving insights for designers of co-located asymmetric VR experiences.

Along with the article comes a video, in which we demonstrate a fully functional prototypical implementation and explain the involved scientific contributions in a simplified manner. The realized technology considers the entire situation of the user and the environment in current and past states. The gained knowledge reflects the context of use and serves as basis for decision-making in the presented adaptive system.

Human beings continuously adapt their way of communication to their surroundings and their communication partner. Although context-aware ubiquitous systems gather a lot of information to maximize their functionality, they predominantly use static ways to communicate. In order to fulfill the user's communication needs and demands, the sensor's diverse and sometimes uncertain information must also be used to dynamically adapt the user interface. In this article we present ProFi, a system for Probabilistic Fission, designed to reason on adaptive and multimodal output based on uncertain or ambiguous data. In addition, we present a system architecture as well as a new meta model for multimodal interactive systems. Based on this meta model we describe ProFi's process of multimodal fission along with our current implementation.

This paper will discuss the concept of a smart mirror for healthier living, the FitMirror. Many people have serious problems to get up after sleeping, to get motivated for the day, or are tired and in a bad mood in the morning. The goal of FitMirror is to positively affect the user's feelings by increasing his/her motivation, mood and feeling of fitness. While concepts for these isolated problems exist, none of these combine them into one system. FitMirror is implemented to combine them and evaluate them in a study. It consists of a monitor with spy-foil, a Microsoft Kinect v2 and a Wii Balance Board and can recognize users and their gestures with these elements. Several hypotheses about the system regarding motivation, fun, difficulty and getting awake were investigated. Participants were grouped by the factors sportspersons and morning persons to investigate the effect based on these aspects. Results show that FitMirror can help users get awake in the morning, raise their motivation to do sports and motivate them for the day.

Modern technical devices are often too complex for many users to be able to use them to their full extent. Based on planning technology, we are able to provide advanced user assistance for operating technical devices. We present a system that assists a human user in setting up a complex home theater consisting of several HiFi devices. For a human user, the task is rather challenging due to a large number of different ports of the devices and the variety of available cables. The system supports the user by giving detailed instructions how to assemble the theater. Its performance is based on advanced user-centered planning capabilities including the generation, repair, and explanation of plans.
