Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of pulmonary embolism by multidetector CT alone or combined with venous ultrasonography of the leg: a randomised non-inferiority trial
Marc Philip Righini,Grégoire Le Gal,Drahomir Aujesky,Pierre-Marie Roy,Olivier Sanchez,Franck Verschuren,Olivier Thierry Rutschmann,Michel Nonent,Jacques Cornuz,Frédéric Thys,Cédric Petit Le Manach,Marie-Pierre Revel,Pierre-Alexandre Alois Poletti,Guy Meyer,Dominique Mottier,Thomas V. Perneger,Henri Bounameaux,Arnaud Perrier +17 more
TL;DR: The strategy combining D-dimer and MSCT is as safe as the strategy using D- dimer followed by venous compression ultrasonography of the leg and MS CT for exclusion of pulmonary embolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of the unstructured clinician gestalt, the wells score, and the revised Geneva score to estimate pretest probability for suspected pulmonary embolism.
Andrea Penaloza,Andrea Penaloza,Franck Verschuren,Guy Meyer,Sybille Quentin-Georget,Caroline Soulie,Frédéric Thys,Pierre-Marie Roy +7 more
TL;DR: In a retrospective study of a prospective observational cohort of consecutive suspected pulmonary embolism patients in emergency departments, gestalt assessment seems to perform better than clinical decision rules because of better selection of patients with low and high clinical probability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Death in emergency departments: a multicenter cross-sectional survey with analysis of withholding and withdrawing life support
Philippe Le Conte,David Riochet,Eric Batard,Christelle Volteau,Bruno Giraudeau,Idriss Arnaudet,Laetitia Labastire,Jacques Levraut,Frédéric Thys,Dominique Lauque,Claude Piva,Jeannot Schmidt,David Trewick,Gilles Potel +13 more
TL;DR: Training of future ED physicians must be aimed at improving the level of care of dying patients, with particular emphasis on collegial decision-taking and institution of palliative care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive ventilation for acute respiratory failure: a prospective randomised placebo-controlled trial
TL;DR: Early application of bi-level noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation in patients with severe acute respiratory failure, due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and acute pulmonary oedema, leads to a rapid improvement in clinical status and blood gases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of age-adjusted D-dimer cut-off to rule out pulmonary embolism
Andrea Penaloza,P.-M. Roy,Jeffrey A. Kline,Franck Verschuren,G. Le Gal,S. Quentin-Georget,N. Delvau,Frédéric Thys +7 more
TL;DR: Age‐adjusted D‐dimer cut‐off has recently been proposed to increase D-dimer usefulness in older patients suspected of pulmonary embolism (PE).
