Journal ArticleDOI
Degradation products of a phenylurea herbicide, diuron: synthesis, ecotoxicity, and biotransformation.
TL;DR: The degradation products of diuron (photoproducts and metabolites), already described in the literature, were synthesized in order to carry out further investigations, and most of the derivatives presented a nontarget toxicity higher than that ofdiuron.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fungal biodegradation of a phenylurea herbicide, diuron: structure and toxicity of metabolites
Céline Tixier,Philippe Bogaerts,Martine Sancelme,Frédérique Bonnemoy,Landoald Twagilimana,Annie Cuer,Jacques Bohatier,Henri Veschambre +7 more
TL;DR: Quantitative biodegradation assays were performed with fungal strains, showing that diuron was degraded but not entirely mineralized, suggesting that duron is of higher environmental concern than previously recognized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biotransformation of phenylurea herbicides by a soil bacterial strain, Arthrobacter sp. N2: structure, ecotoxicity and fate of diuron metabolite with soil fungi.
Céline Tixier,Martine Sancelme,Selim Ait-Aissa,Pascale Widehem,Frédérique Bonnemoy,Annie Cuer,N. Truffaut,Henri Veschambre +7 more
TL;DR: The results stress the importance of identifying the degradation products to assess the impact of a polluting agent, as the pollutant may undergo transformation yielding compounds more toxic than the parent molecule.
Journal ArticleDOI
Response of soil microbial communities to the herbicide mesotrione: a dose-effect microcosm approach.
Olivier Crouzet,Olivier Crouzet,Isabelle Batisson,Isabelle Batisson,Pascale Besse-Hoggan,Pascale Besse-Hoggan,Frédérique Bonnemoy,Frédérique Bonnemoy,Corinne Bardot,Corinne Bardot,Franck Poly,Jacques Bohatier,Jacques Bohatier,Clarisse Mallet,Clarisse Mallet +14 more
TL;DR: This experimental approach indicated that pure mesotrione and Callisto® affected soil microbial communities, but the effects were only detected at doses far exceeding the recommended field rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the potential toxicity of herbicides and their degradation products to nontarget cells using two microorganisms, the bacteria Vibrio fischeri and the ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that it is essential to assess the toxicity of the metabolites formed to complete a more comprehensive study of the environmental impact of a polluting agent.
