Journal ArticleDOI
Posttransfusion and community-acquired hepatitis C in childhood.
Flavia Bortolotti,Paloma Jara,Carmen Diaz,Pietro Vajro,Loreto Hierro,Raffaella Giacchino,Angela de la Vega,Carlo Crivellaro,Carmen Camarena,Cristiana Barbera,Gabriella Nebbia,Lucia Zancan,Lorena De Moliner +12 more
TL;DR: Blood transfusions in the perinatal period are the single most important cause of hepatitis C in otherwise healthy children, and community-acquired cases represent an heterogeneous epidemiologic group in which maternal transmission, whether per inatal or postnatal, could be relevant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-organ specific autoantibodies in children with chronic hepatitis C
Flavia Bortolotti,Pietro Vajro,Fiorella Balli,Raffaella Giacchino,Carlo Crivellaro,Cristiana Barbera,Michela Cataleta,Luigi Muratori,Patrizia Pontisso,Gabriella Nebbia,Lucia Zancan,A. Bertolini,Alfredo Alberti,Francesco B. Bianchi +13 more
TL;DR: The results show that a consistent proportion of children with chronic hepatitis C circulate non-organ specific autoantibodies and the prevalence of LKM1 is greater than in adults and this could raise problems for the treatment of the disease with interferon.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recombinant interferon‐alfa therapy in children with chronic hepatitis C
Flavia Bortolotti,Raffaella Giacchino,Pietro Vajro,Cristiana Barbera,Carlo Crivellaro,Alfredo Alberti,Gabriella Nebbia,Lucia Zancan,Lorena De Moliner,A. Bertolini,Fiorella Balli,Francesco Callea +11 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that recombinant interferon therapy, at the regimen used in this study, may induce sustained ALT normalization and HCV clearance in a significant proportion of children with chronic hepatitis C.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of breakfast composition and energy contribution on cognitive and academic performance: a systematic review
Valeria Edefonti,Valentina Rosato,Maria Parpinel,Gabriella Nebbia,Lorenzo Fiorica,Emilio F. Fossali,Monica Ferraroni,Adriano Decarli,Carlo Agostoni +8 more
TL;DR: There does appear to be emerging, but still equivocal, evidence that a lower postprandial glycemic response is beneficial to cognitive performance, and the hypothesis of a better and more sustained performance with a breakfast providing >20% daily energy intake still needs substantiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recombinant interferon-α2a hastens the rate of HBeAg clearance in children with chronic hepatitis B
Cristiana Barbera,Flavia Bortolotti,Carlo Crivellaro,Alessandra Coscia,Lucia Zancan,Paolo Cadrobbi,Gabriella Nebbia,Maria Nazarena Pillan,Loredana Lepore,Teresa Parrella,Giuseppe Dastoli,Maurizia Rossana Brunetto,Ferruccio Bonino +12 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that, in children as well as in adults, recombinant interferon‐α2a favors the clearance of hepatitis B virus replication, enhancing the host antiviral immunoresponse.
