Proceedings ArticleDOI
First three planets
Geoffrey W. Marcy,R. Paul Butler +1 more
TL;DR: The first three extrasolar planets orbiting Solar-like stars have recently been discovered as mentioned in this paper, and they were inferred from a periodicity in the optical Doppler measurements of their host stars, indicating a reflex motion in response to the gravitational force exerted by the planets.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obliquities of Hot Jupiter host stars: Evidence for tidal interactions and primordial misalignments
Simon Albrecht,Joshua N. Winn,John Asher Johnson,John Asher Johnson,Andrew W. Howard,Geoffrey W. Marcy,R. Paul Butler,Pamela Arriagada,Jeffrey D. Crane,Stephen A. Shectman,Ian B. Thompson,Teruyuki Hirano,Gáspár Á. Bakos,Gáspár Á. Bakos,Joel D. Hartman +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect was used to show that the obliquities of stars with close-in giant planets were initially nearly random, and that the low-obliquity that are often observed are a consequence of star-planet tidal interactions.
Book ChapterDOI
Limits on the Magnetic Flux of a Pre-Main Sequence Star
Gibor Basri,Geoffrey W. Marcy +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors detect magnetic fields on the weak T Tauri star, TAP35, via the enhanced equivalent widths of Zeeman-broadened absorption lines.
Validation of Twelve Small Kepler Transiting Planets in the Habitable Zone

Twicken,Elisa V. Quintana,Thomas Barclay +25 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring nine simultaneously occurring transients on April 12th 1950
Beatriz Villarroel,Beatriz Villarroel,Geoffrey W. Marcy,S. Geier,Alina Streblyanska,Enrique Solano,Vitaly N. Andruk,Matt Shultz,Alok C. Gupta,Lars Mattsson +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present deep CCD images with the 10.4m Gran Telescopio Canarias that reveal possible optical counterparts, although these counterparts could equally well be just chance projections.
