Serotonergic neurotransmission in early Parkinson's disease: a pilot study to assess implications for depression in this disorder.

TL;DR: The results support the hypothesis that serotonergic neurotransmission is decreased in untreated Parkinson's disease and suggest that a lowSerotonergic activity may be related to the dopamine pathology in PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

COMT Val108/158Met genotype modulates human sensory gating.

TL;DR: The results indicate that a high prefrontal efficiency as suggested by the COMT Met/Met genotype is associated with to a poor sensory gating of the N100 component, which would fit in a model where a high cortex processing capacity allows a pronounced afferent input of sensory information from the auditory cortex as reflected by a poor Sensory gating.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effectiveness and cost of atypical versus typical antipsychotic treatment for schizophrenia in routine care.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effectiveness of atypical versus typical antipsychotic treatment for schizophrenia in routine care was investigated in a large-scale clinical trial with 3,121 patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of basal ganglia, brainstem raphe and ventricles in bipolar disorder by transcranial sonography.

TL;DR: Echogenicities of dopaminergic basal ganglia structures were assessed for the first time in bipolar disorder and depressed bipolar patients with reduced BR echogenicity showed significantly higher scores on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale as well as the Montgomery-Åsberg depression Rating Scale.
Journal ArticleDOI

[PSP Scale: German version of the Personal and Social Performance Scale: valid instrument for the assessment of psychosocial functioning in the treatment of schizophrenia].

TL;DR: The German Personal and Social Performance (PSP) Scale as mentioned in this paper was used to assess psychosocial functioning in patients with schizophrenia during short, medium and long-term treatment courses, with four subdimensions: socially useful activities, work and study included, personal and social relationships, self-care and disturbing and aggressive behaviour.
