Journal ArticleDOI

Reevaluation of Oxidative Phosphorylation in Cardiac Mitochondria from Normal Animals and Animals in Heart Failure

TL;DR: It is concluded that severe heart failure is characterized by defects in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, and that techniques of isolation or assay or both are probably not causing the abnormalities.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enzymatic studies on isolated nucleoli of rat liver.

TL;DR: The increased ribonuclease activity produced by sonic oscillation, Triton X-100, and p-chloromercuribenzoate, as well as the different response to these agents of nuclear fractions from normal rats and from rats treated with thioacetamide or actinomycin D, shows that there may be more than one mechanism of latency of nuclear and nucleolar ribonucleases.
Journal ArticleDOI

A kinetic description for sodium and potassium effects on (Na++K+)‐adenosine triphosphatase: a model for a two‐nonequivalent site potassium activation and an analysis of multiequivalent site models for sodium activation

TL;DR: Dissociation constants for sodium and potassium of a site that modulates the rate of ouabain‐(Na++K+)‐ATPase interaction were applied to models for potassium activation of (Na++k+)‐ ATPase to derive constants for activation constant, Ka and inhibitory constant, Ki.
