Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical correlates of cigarette smoking and nicotine dependence in alcohol-dependent men and women
Jean-Bernard Daeppen,Tom L. Smith,George P. Danko,Lauren Gordon,Nancy A. Landi,John I. Nurnberger,Kathleen K. Bucholz,Eric B. Raimo,Marc A. Schuckit,Marc A. Schuckit +9 more
TL;DR: Current smokers and nicotine-dependent subjects had a greater severity of alcohol dependence, even as evaluated through logistic regression analyses in which gender and associated diagnoses were considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors and Correlates of Suicide Attempts Over 5 Years in 1,237 Alcohol-Dependent Men and Women
Ulrich W. Preuss,Marc A. Schuckit,Tom L. Smith,George P. Danko,Kathleen K. Bucholz,Michie N. Hesselbrock,Victor Hesselbrock,John Kramer +7 more
TL;DR: A 5-year prospective evaluation of attributes associated with suicide attempts among alcohol-dependent persons identified factors that contributed to a small but significant proportion of the variance for future suicidal behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Implications for Four Drugs of the DSM-IV Distinction Between Substance Dependence With and Without a Physiological Component
Marc A. Schuckit,Jean-Bernard Daeppen,George P. Danko,Megan L. Tripp,Tom L. Smith,Ti.-K. Li,Victor Hesselbrock,Kathleen K. Bucholz +7 more
TL;DR: The results support the importance of the designation of a physiological component to dependence, especially for people who have experienced a withdrawal syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of a level of response to alcohol-based structural equation model in adolescents.
Marc A. Schuckit,Tom L. Smith,George P. Danko,Kristen G. Anderson,Sandra A. Brown,Samuel Kuperman,John Kramer,Victor Hesselbrock,Kathleen K. Bucholz +8 more
TL;DR: In these adolescents, LR not only had a direct relationship to alcoholic outcome but, in contrast to prior results in adults, also appeared to operate through expectations of the effects of alcohol in predicting heavier drinking and a higher rate of alcohol-related problems among teenagers.
Journal ArticleDOI
The prognostic implications of DSM-IV abuse criteria in drinking adolescents
Marc A. Schuckit,George P. Danko,Tom L. Smith,Laura J. Bierut,Kathleen K. Bucholz,Howard J. Edenberg,Victor Hesselbrock,John Kramer,John I. Nurnberger,Ryan S. Trim,Rhonda Allen,Sara Kreikebaum,Briana Hinga +12 more
TL;DR: Results support some assets for the DSM-IV alcohol abuse criteria in these adolescents, including indications of both cross-sectional and predictive validities.
