Methodology for genetic studies of twins and families: Michael C. Neale and Lon R. Cardon. Kluwer, Dordrecht, The Netherlands, 1992, xxv + 496 pp., $140.00 (hardback), ISBN 0-7923-1874-9. [NATO Advanced Science Institute Series D: Behavioural and Social Sciences, Vol. 67. From workshops in Leuven, Belgium (1987, 1989, 1991), and Boulder, Colorado (1990)]

TL;DR: This book contains the papers and conference proceedings from a symposium of epideiiologists, physiologists, and physicians involved in research into the role of aluminiumi as an environmental toxin in human pathology, with a particular focus on therole of aluminium in Alzheimer's disease.
Journal Article

Influences of genes and shared family environment on adult body mass index assessed in an adoption study by a comprehensive path model.

TL;DR: There was strong evidence for genetic effects, and no evidence for any effects related to the shared family environment--all familial resemblance in adults can be attributed to genetic influences, however, more than half of the interindividual differences in body mass index is due to nonshared individual environmental influences.
Journal ArticleDOI

Filter ventilation and nicotine content of tobacco in cigarettes from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors determined filter ventilation and the nicotine content of tobacco and their contribution to machine-smoked yields of cigarettes from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heritabilities of Apolipoprotein and Lipid Levels in Three Countries

TL;DR: It is shown that genes play a major role in determining the variance of apolipoprotein and lipid levels in four independent twin samples from three different countries, including the Netherlands, Australia and Sweden.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dose-Dependent Cortisol-Induced Increases in Plasma Leptin Concentration in Healthy Humans

TL;DR: Results indicate an important role for GCs in the short-term regulation of human leptin secretion, and suggest a mechanism that may contribute to anorexia and weight loss during stress and disease states such as major depression, if these conditions are associated with sustained increases in plasma leptin concentrations.
