Journal ArticleDOI

Transport of paclitaxel (Taxol) across the blood-brain barrier in vitro and in vivo

TL;DR: Therapeutic relevance was proven for nude mice with implanted intracerebral human U-118 MG glioblastoma and co-administration of paclitaxel (intravenous) and PSC833 (peroral) reduced tumor volume by 90%.
Journal ArticleDOI

Xenobiotic Transport across Isolated Brain Microvessels Studied by Confocal Microscopy

TL;DR: The results validate a new method for studying drug transport in isolated brain capillaries and implicate both P-glycoprotein and one or more members of the Mrp family in drug transport from central nervous system to blood.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phospholipids and lipid-based formulations in oral drug delivery.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized particular features of commonly used phospholipids and their application spectrum within oral drug formulation and elucidates current strategies to improve bioavailability and disposition of orally administered drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pregnane X Receptor Up-Regulation of P-Glycoprotein Expression and Transport Function at the Blood-Brain Barrier

TL;DR: This work reports for the first time that PXR is expressed in rat brain capillaries and for regulation by nuclear receptors of a xenobiotic export pump at the blood-brain barrier, implying selective tightening of the barrier in patients exposed to the wide range of xenobiotics that are PxR/SXR ligands, including drugs, dietary constituents, and toxicants.
