Journal ArticleDOI
Residual pituitary function after brain injury-induced hypopituitarism: A prospective 12-month study
Gianluca Aimaretti,Maria Rosaria Ambrosio,Carolina Di Somma,Maurizio Gasperi,Salvatore Cannavò,Carla Scaroni,Alessandra Fusco,Patrizia Del Monte,Ernesto De Menis,Marco Faustini-Fustini,Franco Grimaldi,Francesco Logoluso,P. Razzore,S. Rovere,Salvatore Benvenga,Ettore C. degli Uberti,Laura De Marinis,Gaetano Lombardi,Franco Mantero,Enio Martino,Giulio Giordano,Ezio Ghigo +21 more
TL;DR: There is high risk for H in TBI and SAH patients and early diagnosis of PH is always confirmed in the long term, whereas MH and IH were confirmed in 25% only.
Journal ArticleDOI
Traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid haemorrhage are conditions at high risk for hypopituitarism: screening study at 3 months after the brain injury
Gianluca Aimaretti,Maria Rosaria Ambrosio,Carolina Di Somma,Alessandra Fusco,Salvatore Cannavò,Maurizio Gasperi,Carla Scaroni,Laura De Marinis,Salvatore Benvenga,Ettore Degli Uberti,Gaetano Lombardi,Franco Mantero,Enio Martino,Giulio Giordano,Ezio Ghigo +14 more
TL;DR: The management of BI patients does not routinely include neuroendocrine evaluations, and acquired hypopituitarism in adults is obviously suspected in patients with primary hypothalamic–pituitary diseases, particularly after neurosurgery and/or radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The cut-off limits of the GH response to GH-releasing hormone-arginine test related to body mass index.
G. Corneli,Carolina Di Somma,Roberto Baldelli,S. Rovere,Valentina Gasco,Chiara Giulia Croce,Silvia Grottoli,Mauro Maccario,Annamaria Colao,Gaetano Lombardi,Ezio Ghigo,Franco Camanni,Gianluca Aimaretti +12 more
TL;DR: The GHRH-ARG test is a reliable tool for the diagnosis of adult GH deficiency in lean, overweight and obese patients, provided that specific BMI-related cut-off limits are assumed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reliability of provocative tests to assess growth hormone secretory status. Study in 472 normally growing children.
Ezio Ghigo,Jaele Bellone,Gianluca Aimaretti,S. Bellone,S Loche,M Cappa,E. Bartolotta,F Dammacco,Franco Camanni +8 more
TL;DR: Only GHRH combined with PD or ARG may be able to clearly differentiate normal children from patients with GH deficiency, though a normal GH response to these tests cannot rule out the existence of GH hyposecretory state because of hypothalamic dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison between insulin-induced hypoglycemia and growth hormone (GH)-releasing hormone + arginine as provocative tests for the diagnosis of GH deficiency in adults.
Gianluca Aimaretti,G. Corneli,P. Razzore,S. Bellone,Claudia Baffoni,Emanuela Arvat,Franco Camanni,Ezio Ghigo +7 more
TL;DR: The present results confirm that the ITT test is a reliable provocative test for the diagnosis of adult GHD, whereas they show that the GHRH + ARG test is, at least, as sensitive as the ITt test (provided that appropriate cut-off limits are considered).
