Journal ArticleDOI
U–Pb detrital zircon ages and Sm–Nd isotopic features in low-grade metasedimentary rocks of the Famatina belt: implications for late Neoproterozoic–early Palaeozoic evolution of the proto-Andean margin of Gondwana
TL;DR: A micro-probe analysis of detrital zircons and whole-rock analysis of two early Palaeozoic low-grade metasedimentary units record the early evolution of this region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clay mineralogy and thermal history of the Neogene Vinchina Basin, central Andes of Argentina: Analysis of factors controlling the heating conditions
TL;DR: The Vinchina Foreland Basin, western Argentina, contains a ∼7 km thick nonmarine stratigraphy, chronologically constrained within the Mio-Pliocene (circa 19-3.4 Ma), and where distribution of Illite/Smectite interstratified phases has shown a progressive smectite-illitization progress (R0 → R1 → R3), is consistent with an incipient burial history as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ordovician K-bentonites in the upper-plate active margin of Western Gondwana, (Famatina Ranges): Stratigraphic and palaeogeographic significance
TL;DR: In this article, thin-bedded, tabular pale-yellowish clay bands are interlayered with black shales in a biostratigraphically constrained Early Ordovician volcano-sedimentary succession at Famatina, western Argentina.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isotopic and thermochronologic evidence of extremely cold lithosphere associated with a slab flattening in the Central Andes of Argentina
Gilda Collo,Federico M. Dávila,Wilson Teixeira,Julieta C. Nóbile,Lucy Gomes Sant Anna,Andrew Carter +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, mineralogic, isotopic and thermochronologic analyses on psammopelitic and tuffaceous levels from the Bermejo and Vinchina basins are presented.
Book ChapterDOI
Mantle Influence on Andean and Pre-Andean Topography
Federico M. Dávila,Carolina Lithgow-Bertelloni,Federico Martina,Pilar Ávila,Julieta C. Nóbile,Gilda Collo,Miguel Ezpeleta,Horacio Nicolas Canelo,Francisco Sánchez +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide new geological evidences along the Central and Patagonian Andes, which demonstrate that dynamic topography has been an important component on the South American landscape formation as well as in the ancient western Gondwana.
