Journal ArticleDOI
Spectrally and spatially flexible optical network planning and operations
Dimitrios Klonidis,Filippo Cugini,Ori Gerstel,Masahiko Jinno,Victor Lopez,Eleni Palkopoulou,Motoyoshi Sekiya,Domenico Siracusa,Gilles Thouenon,Christophe Betoule +9 more
TL;DR: The adoption of the space dimension is identified as a promising solution for the capacity expansion of future networks, while novel spatial-spectral switching solutions show that the flexible networking concept can be further expanded over both the spatial and spectral dimensions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi-Band OFDM Transmission at 100 Gbps With Sub-Band Optical Switching
Erwan Pincemin,Mengdi Song,J. Karaki,Omid Zia-Chahabi,Thierry Guillossou,Didier Grot,Gilles Thouenon,Christophe Betoule,R. Clavier,Alain Poudoulec,M. Van der Keur,Yves Jaouën,R. Le Bidan,T. Le Gall,Philippe Gravey,Michel Morvan,B. Dumas-Feris,Marie-Laure Moulinard,Gwillerm Froc +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented an original work on sub-wavelength optical switching performed over a coherent multi-band orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) super-channel operating at 100 Gbps.
Journal ArticleDOI
Challenges of 40/100 Gbps and higher-rate deployments over long-haul transport networks
Erwan Pincemin,Julie Karaki,Yann Loussouarn,H. Poignant,Christophe Betoule,Gilles Thouenon,Raphaël Le Bidan +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the challenges of 40/100 Gbps deployments on existing system and fiber infrastructure are discussed, while the most efficient economical conditions for their introduction are determined and the potential consequences of this unbelievable increase of data rate over the operation of metropolitan and core transport networks are also given, whereas solutions to manage them while increasing the flexibility of these networks are proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flexible optical cross-connects for high bit rate elastic photonic transport networks [Invited]
Mengdi Song,Erwan Pincemin,Arne Josten,Benedikt Baeuerle,David Hillerkuss,Juerg Leuthold,Roy Rudnick,Dan M. Marom,S. Ben Ezra,J. F. Ferran,Gilles Thouenon,Pouria Sayyad Khodashenas,Jose Manuel Rivas-Moscoso,Christophe Betoule,D. Klonidis,Ioannis Tomkos +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the work performed in the EU-funded flexible optical cross-connect (FOX-C) project, which investigates and develops new flexible optical switching solutions with ultra-fine spectral granularity.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Enabling transparent technologies for the development of highly granular flexible optical cross-connects
D. Klonidis,Stylianos Sygletos,Dan M. Marom,Simon J. Fabbri,Andrew D. Ellis,Erwan Pincemin,Christophe Betoule,Gilles Thouenon,David Hillerkuss,Benedikt Baeuerle,Arne Josten,Juerg Leuthold,Jian Zhao,Shalva Ben-Ezra,J. F. Ferran,M. Angelou,G. Papastergiou,Panagiotis Zakynthinos,Ioannis Tomkos +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the main concept and technology solutions envisioned by the EU funded project FOX-C, which targets the design, development and evaluation of the first functional system prototype of flexible add-drop and switching cross-connects.
