Journal ArticleDOI
Periodontitis and early mortality among adults treated with hemodialysis: a multinational propensity-matched cohort study.
Marinella Ruospo,Suetonia C. Palmer,Germaine Wong,Jonathan C. Craig,Massimo Petruzzi,Michele De Benedittis,Pauline J. Ford,David W. Johnson,David W. Johnson,Marcello Tonelli,Patrizia Natale,Valeria Saglimbene,Fabio Pellegrini,Eduardo Celia,Ruben Gelfman,Miguel Leal,Marietta Török,Paul Stroumza,Anna Bednarek-Skublewska,Jan Duława,Luc Frantzen,Domingo Del Castillo,Staffan Schön,Amparo G. Bernat,Jörgen Hegbrant,Charlotta Wollheim,Letizia Gargano,Casper P. Bots,Giovanni F.M. Strippoli +28 more
TL;DR: In contrast to the general population, periodontitis does not appear to be associated with an increased risk of early death in adults treated with hemodialysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
How to design a randomized controlled trial.
Sankar D. Navaneethan,Suetonia C. Palmer,Alicia Smith,David W. Johnson,David W. Johnson,Giovanni F.M. Strippoli +5 more
TL;DR: The key steps that are required to design a randomized controlled trial are summarized and it is shown that randomized controlled trials are the ideal study design to evaluate the effectiveness of health‐care interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid intake and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in adults on hemodialysis: The DIET-HD multinational cohort study
Valeria Saglimbene,Germaine Wong,Germaine Wong,Germaine Wong,Marinella Ruospo,Suetonia C. Palmer,Katrina L. Campbell,Vanessa Garcia Larsen,Patrizia Natale,Armando Teixeira-Pinto,Juan Jesus Carrero,Peter Stenvinkel,Letizia Gargano,Angelo M. Murgo,David W. Johnson,David W. Craig,Jonathan C. Craig,Giovanni F.M. Strippoli +34 more
TL;DR: Dietary n-3 PUFA intake was not associated with cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in patients on hemodialysis, and the possibility that n- 3 PUFA supplementation might mitigate cardiovascular risk has not been excluded.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continuous local anaesthetic wound infusion for postoperative pain after midline laparotomy for colorectal resection in adults
Sophie S Liang,Andrew Ying,Eshan T. Affan,Benedict F Kakala,Giovanni F.M. Strippoli,Alan Bullingham,Helen Currow,David W Dunn,Zeigfeld Yuâ€Ting Yeh +8 more
TL;DR: This review included six randomised controlled trials that enrolled a total of 564 adults undergoing elective midline laparotomy for colorectal resection comparing continuous wound infusion of a local anaesthetic to a normal saline placebo and quantitatively synthesised the data by meta-analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Is renal impairment a predictor of the incidence of cataract or cataract surgery?: Findings from a population-based study
TL;DR: The effect of moderate or worse renal impairment on incident cataract surgery depended on age, however, the interpretation of this effect is uncertain because of additional factors that may be involved in patients having surgery.
