Journal ArticleDOI
Is Coronary Artery Disease Inevitable in Type 2 Diabetes? From a Glucocentric to a Holistic View on Patient Management.
TL;DR: The fact that ischemic heart disease and stroke, conditions for which diabetes is a major risk factor, hold the two leading positions confirms that diabetes is an important threat to health, and a predicted increase in adults living with diabetes, further underlines that this menace is truly of an immense magnitude.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sodium-glucose transporter inhibition in heart failure: from an unexpected side effect to a novel treatment possibility.
TL;DR: Sodium-glucose transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been studied in large cardiovascular outcome trials to ascertain safety as discussed by the authors, and the results of these studies have been taken into account in recently issued guidelines for the management of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Medical Treatment in Coronary Patients: Is there Still a Gender Gap? Results from European Society of Cardiology EUROASPIRE V Registry.
Pieter Vynckier,Giulia Ferrannini,Lars Rydén,Lale Tokgozoglu,Jan Bruthans,Kornelia Kotseva,Kornelia Kotseva,David R. Wood,David R. Wood,Tine De Backer,Sofie Gevaert,Dirk De Bacquer,Delphine De Smedt +12 more
TL;DR: The EUROASPIRE V results show only limited gender differences in the medical management ofCHD patients, and suggest growing awareness about risk in female CHD patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gender differences in screening for glucose perturbations, cardiovascular risk factor management and prognosis in patients with dysglycaemia and coronary artery disease: results from the ESC-EORP EUROASPIRE surveys
Giulia Ferrannini,Dirk De Bacquer,Pieter Vynckier,Guy De Backer,Viveca Gyberg,Kornelia Kotseva,Kornelia Kotseva,Linda Mellbin,Linda Mellbin,Anna Norhammar,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Jaakko Tuomilehto,David R. Wood,Lars Rydén +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated gender differences in screening for dysglycaemia, cardiovascular risk factor management and prognosis in dysglycemic CAD patients, finding that women with known diabetes had higher risk for the endpoint than men (age-adjusted HR 1.22; 95% CI 1.04-1.43).
Journal ArticleDOI
Pituitary growth hormone (GH) secretion is partially rescued in HIV-infected patients with GH deficiency (GHD) compared to hypopituitary patients.
Chiara Diazzi,Giulia Brigante,Giulia Ferrannini,Anna Ansaloni,Lucia Zirilli,Maria Cristina De Santis,Stefano Zona,Giovanni Guaraldi,Vincenzo Rochira +8 more
TL;DR: Data from the current study suggest that human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients with peak growth hormone < 9 mg/L may have partial growth hormone deficiency and clinicians should be cautious before prescribing recombinant human growth hormone replacement treatment to patients living with human immuno-deficiency virus.
