The Web is a progressively more important resource in many aspects of life: government, commerce and more. As governments to continue to provide businesses and citizens with new value-added e-services, citizens with disabilities are still being deprived from taking full advantage of these services. While the proportion of people with disabilities (visual impairment, hearing impairment, cognitive disability etc.) in society has been rapidly increasing due to the demographic trends long documented by many researchers, governmental leaders have paid little attention to their needs when planning and implementing Web projects. Therefore, it is essential that all citizens must have equal accessible opportunities to all e-government recourses. This research evaluates the accessibility of each of the 25 e-Government websites in Turkey by people disabilities based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 and 2.0 and using automated testing tools. The results of study indicate that the prevalent priority-1 accessibility barriers identified in this study were related to the absence of text equivalents for non-text elements, and the failure of the static equivalents for dynamic content to get updated when the dynamic content changes.

Web Accessibility Evaluation of Government Websites for People with Disabilities in Turkey

The main aim of this research is to investigate the role of web portals in improving job performance at the individual level from the perspective of employees as users. This is deemed significant as yet little research has assessed the success of web portals in delivering benefits at the individual level in terms of improved performance in developing countries. The DeLone and McLean IS success model was used as a foundational theory and then was refined to match the context of the current research. In fact, the functions and features of portals were identified, clustered and then linked to portals' quality factors: system quality, information quality, and service quality. Moreover, job performance of employees is measured through task innovation, task productivity, customer satisfaction, and management control. This research follows a case study approach where the phenomenon was examined in the natural setting of the selected company i.e., ProgressSoft in Amman-Jordan, and a survey questionnaire was developed for data collection purposes. Findings have shown that the developed model explained about 69.6% of the variance in 'job performance'.

Measuring web portals success: a respecification and validation of the DeLone and McLean information systems success model

The market for mobile devices is growing rapidly nowadays. Constant technological improvements provide great opportunities for the creation of mobile applications. For the success of a mobile application or website, one of the main concerns, besides security issues, is usability. Poor usability decreases user productivity and consequently causes loss of users. In order to avoid these problems, usability aspects have to be considered already during the design phase of the application, e.g. by following predefined usability guidelines. Although usability guidelines for web development are already in place since the 1990s, structured and evaluated usability guidelines for mobile applications can rarely be found in scientific literature. Thus, in this paper we introduce a catalogue of usability guidelines for mobile applications and websites, and subsequently demonstrate their usage by applying them in two case studies: the development of a mobile application and a mobile website.

Towards Usability Guidelines for Mobile Websites and Applications

Considering the rapid growth of internet service in recent years, its quality plays an important role in such environment. The aim of this study is to evaluate and rank selected hotels offering electronic services e-services by integrated approach of Webqual and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process FAHP. For this purpose, the validity of Webqual model has been investigated and a model has been proposed. Appropriate criteria have been used for evaluating service quality based on Webqual model and international hotels of Isfahan have been ranked using FAHP. Findings indicate that quality of information has the highest priority; and usability dimensions and services interaction are the next priorities. Based on e-service quality evaluation, the order of ranking has been determined as Abbasi, Kowsar, Aseman and Aliqapu hotels.

Evaluating and ranking hotels offering e-service by integrated approach of Webqual and fuzzy AHP

This research conducts tests to measure the quality of e-government websites of five Asian countries via web diagnostic tools online. We propose a methodology for determining and evaluating the best e-government website based on many criteria of website quality, consisting of linear weightage model (LWM), analytical hierarchy process (AHP), fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP), and one new hybrid model (NHM). This NHM has been implemented using combination FAHP and LWM to generate the weights for the criteria which are better and more fairly preferred. The results of this study confirmed that most Asian websites are neglecting in performance and quality criteria. By applying the hybrid model approach it has resulted in significant acceleration of implementation, raised the overall effectiveness and enabled more efficient procedure. To compare the ranking methods, a combination of Friedman's test and Dunn's multiple comparison procedure is adopted. When applied to the methods presented here, these tests indicate that AHP, FAHP, and Hybrid method methods perform better than LWM.

A comparison of Asian e-government websites quality: using a non-parametric test

The main challenges of e-commerce are to attract customers and maintain a good relationship with existing customer as user only interact with electronic device. Therefore designing a good and usable website is the most crucial part to succeed in this highly competitive environment. The objectives of this study are to evaluate C2C e-commerce website usability and to study problems faced by potential customer in process of purchasing online. In this study, a number of university students were asked to evaluate the usability of two Malaysian C2C websites. Two local websites were chosen, one is a prominent website and the other one is randomly picked from the internet. A framework for evaluating e-commerce usability was implemented in this study. The website is rated based on criteria of system quality, information quality, service quality and attractiveness. Users need to complete a number of tasks on the websites and think-aloud was encouraged during the evaluation process. Results show a number of usability issues encountered by users while completing the task given. From these findings, ecommerce developers may look at the issues seriously before designing their e-commerce website.

Evaluating C2C e-commerce website usability in Malaysia from users' perspective: A case study

Asthma is a very common disease that may become lethal if remained untreated. An asthma patient must always be alert with their body condition, especially their respiratory and the surroundings they are in. This paper proposes a development of a rule-based asthma system. This system provides advice for patients who would like to know the chances of getting an asthma attack are based on the patient's current asthma condition and surrounding environment. To do so, the patients will answer questions to enable the system to understand their current health condition and the environment they are living in. It will then provide suggestions to avoid the attack, or to hasten asthma recovery, which includes environmental factors. Data regarding asthma was gathered through an interview with doctors and online medical resources. A rule-based algorithm was developed based on the data gathered. With this program, it allows patient's self-management to lead a healthy, asthma-free lifestyle.

The development of a rule-based asthma system

This research focuses on developing an Android-based mobile phone prototype to calculate and determine the duration of physical exercise, time to exercise and the types of exercise needed daily by the user. The factors that will be used in the calculation of the algorithm are BMI (Body Mass Index) of the user, user's body condition and working hours. Rule-based algorithm was used in this application to suggest their exercise schedule. Further and long term study is necessary to see the effectiveness, perceived usefulness and usability of this system.

Android-based exercise application

This paper demonstrates the needs of football websites in Equatorial Guinea (EG) which is one of the smallest country in African continent. The websites is designed with the purpose to encourage information sharing and promoting EG football team among football fans from inside and outside of EG. This research is initiated based on three (3) key factors : 1) EG people would like to promote their football national team; 2) the lack of medium to share the football news; 3) need a platform to keep themselves updated and exchange opinion with other fan. Implementing a football website also could give benefit in terms of promoting the league to the outside world. Pre-implementation questionnaires were distributed to EG citizens and the result is analyzed to evaluate the needs. The feedback from the respondents on the websites features and design will be evaluated before it is transformed into a portal that will surely fulfill all the users' requirement and also the needs of EG citizens.
