In this paper we discuss about the Design of an Automated Wireless Carpooling System (AWCS), which can curtail the over usage of on road vehicles to a considerable amount. This system is designed for private vehicle owners who commute individually from the workplace to home. The system makes use of pre registration method, by which only identified people get into the carpool vehicles so that crime can be reduced. The Central Monitoring system (CMS) used here intelligently handles carpool requests and switches them efficiently. The user can acquire details of his/her travel by sending a SMS from their mobile phone. Waiting centers are allocated at each part of the city and the users can enter the carpooled vehicles only from these waiting centers. A person is assigned at each waiting center to check the identity of the people entering. Thus the proposed AWCS can be implemented in a city efficiently.

The WiSafeCar (Wireless Traffic Safety Network Between Cars) project aims at creating a comprehensive wireless communication and service platform targeting vehicular networks, striving to reduce accidents and traffic congestion. Within the frame of this project, a dynamic carpooling transport system was designed, reacting in real time to events and user transport requests. In order to allow this system to integrate seamlessly with other transport modes, but also to encourage users to use carpooling, a clearing service has been implemented to solve the inherent compensation issues. Both the carpooling system and the underlying utility services have been prototyped, using the Netlogo simulator, to prove not only the efficiency of WiSafeCar at reducing the congestion in cities; but also to validate the business models to be implemented and more precisely the clearing algorithm.

A transport based clearing system for dynamic carpooling business services

Carpooling is a social service par excellence. Solidarity between people or within identified groups, contracting service and confidence in service when hazards can occur, safety of the service provided (not only the ICT information provided but also the operated travel when an itinerary path is computed), and sometimes confidentiality agreements or information exchanged, all these characteristics and values are features which are considered necessary to develop the use of carpooling. The use of carpooling is too confidential. It is struggling to reach a critical mass. Furthermore, the democratization of the carpooling service faces the difficulty of access to a critical mass of offers (empty seats) to look forward a request. In this paper we define and provide a push service to carpooling. This push service brings more opportunism. So the instant processing of an offer or need transportation, explicitly formulated, or implicitly and partially formulated, that leads to intelligent use. Log management, knowledge of the operating environment in real-time, enabling the functionality of the service push, all these features make up a process of linking supply and demand as a prerequisite of all carpooling contracts. We present such a service in the context of Real-Time Carpooling service, and more generally in the context of demand responsive transportation system. The concepts of this push service were validated through experimental service at a stadium of French Ligue 1 of football during the past two years.

A Push Service for Carpooling

The WiSafeCar (Wireless Traffic Safety Network between Cars) project aims at increasing the performance and reliability of the wireless transport and to provide traffic safety improvements. Within the context of this project, we have designed a Dynamic Carpooling System that will optimize the transport utilization by the ride sharing among people who usually cover the same route. An initial prototype of the system has been developed by using NetLogo. The information obtained from this simulator will be used to study the functioning of the clearing services, the current business models and to propose new ones. The first results seem encouraging, and the users have many economical advantages thanks to the sharing of costs which allows the individuals to retrench expenses and to contribute to the use of green technologies.

Campus football application based on FPGA system and GPS wearable electronic equipment

Car-pooling is a possible solution to lack of transportation convenience faced by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) community. The remote location of the university creates the need to travel very occasionally in order to run errands. Observation indicates that the popular mode of transport in UTP is by car but often with vacant passenger seats. Obstacles are difficulty of offering and finding rides especially within a short-notice. This paper discusses the underlying pervasive technology that makes carpooling application more practical. Existing systems are mostly forums or data input and retrieval systems. The paper concludes with a proposed system which finds matching rides automatically every time there is a new request or offer entry and informs both parties immediately by using push strategy.

Pervasive car pooling system using push strategy

This paper demonstrates the needs of football websites in Equatorial Guinea (EG) which is one of the smallest country in African continent. The websites is designed with the purpose to encourage information sharing and promoting EG football team among football fans from inside and outside of EG. This research is initiated based on three (3) key factors : 1) EG people would like to promote their football national team; 2) the lack of medium to share the football news; 3) need a platform to keep themselves updated and exchange opinion with other fan. Implementing a football website also could give benefit in terms of promoting the league to the outside world. Pre-implementation questionnaires were distributed to EG citizens and the result is analyzed to evaluate the needs. The feedback from the respondents on the websites features and design will be evaluated before it is transformed into a portal that will surely fulfill all the users' requirement and also the needs of EG citizens.
