Modelling biomass burning emissions and the effect of spatial resolution: A case study for Africa based on the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED)

TL;DR: A model using MODIS satellite observations of burned area and vegetation characteristics to study the impact of spatial resolution on modelled fire emission estimates found that lower emissions at finer resolutions are mainly the result of reduced representation errors when comparing modelled estimates of fuel load and consumption to field measurements, as part of the model calibration.

Denial of long-term issues with agriculture on tropical peatlands will have devastating consequences

Lahiru S. Wijedasa, +138 more
TL;DR: The first International Peat Congress (IPC) held in the tropics in Kuching (Malaysia) brought together over 1000 international peatland scientists and industrial partners from across the world as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global biomass burning fuel consumption and emissions at 500 m spatial resolution based on the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED)

TL;DR: In this article , the authors developed a global fire emissions model with a spatial resolution of 500m using MODIS (MODIS) data, which is based on a simplified version of the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED) modelling framework.
Book Chapter

Modeling vegetation fires and fire emissions

TL;DR: Recently developed dynamic fire-vegetation models are capable of simulating the extent of wildfires as well as their emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases for ambient and projected climatic conditions as discussed by the authors.
