Journal ArticleDOI
The potential of Indonesian mangrove forests for global climate change mitigation
Daniel Murdiyarso,Daniel Murdiyarso,Joko Purbopuspito,Joko Purbopuspito,J. Boone Kauffman,M.W. Warren,Sigit D. Sasmito,Daniel C. Donato,Solichin Manuri,Haruni Krisnawati,Sartji Taberima,Sofyan Kurnianto,Sofyan Kurnianto +12 more
TL;DR: Indonesian mangrove carbon stocks are estimated to be 1,083 ± 378 MgC ha−1 as mentioned in this paper, which is a large amount of carbon stored in mangroves.
Journal ArticleDOI
An appraisal of Indonesia’s immense peat carbon stock using national peatland maps: uncertainties and potential losses from conversion
M.W. Warren,Kristell Hergoualc'h,J. Boone Kauffman,J. Boone Kauffman,Daniel Murdiyarso,Daniel Murdiyarso,Randall K. Kolka +6 more
TL;DR: Considering the high uncertainties in peatland extent, volume and carbon storage revealed in this assessment of current maps, a systematic revision of Indonesia’s peat maps to produce a single geospatial reference that is universally accepted would improve national peat carbon storage estimates and greatly benefit carbon cycle research, land use management and spatial planning.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping spatial distribution and biomass of coastal wetland vegetation in Indonesian Papua by combining active and passive remotely sensed data
TL;DR: In this article, a suite of methods was developed to evaluate the combination of Landsat-8, ALOS PALSAR, and SRTM data for mapping spatial distribution of mangrove composition, canopy height, and aboveground biomass in the wide intertidal zones and coastal plains of Mimika district, Papua, Indonesia.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The first International Peat Congress (IPC) held in the tropics - in Kuching (Malaysia) - brought together over 1000 international peatland scientists and industrial partners from across the world.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carbon accumulation of tropical peatlands over millennia: a modeling approach
Sofyan Kurnianto,Sofyan Kurnianto,M.W. Warren,Julie Talbot,Julie Talbot,Boone Kauffman,Daniel Murdiyarso,Daniel Murdiyarso,Steve Frolking +8 more
TL;DR: This work presents the first model of long-term carbon accumulation in tropical peatlands by modifying the Holocene Peat Model (HPM), which has been successfully applied to northern temperate peat Lands and outputs are generally consistent with field observations from Indonesia.
