TL;DR: This research presents a novel probabilistic procedure called “spot-spot analysis” that allows for real-time analysis of the response of the immune system to natural disasters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Blood Lactate Levels Cutoff and Mortality Prediction in Sepsis-Time for a Reappraisal? a Retrospective Cohort Study.

TL;DR: A lactate level more than 2.5 mmol/L was the best threshold to predict 28-day mortality among severe sepsis and septic shock patients, and prospective studies should address the impact on morbidity and mortality of this threshold as a trigger to resuscitation in this population of critically ill patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Expression of cell surface receptors and oxidative metabolism modulation in the clinical continuum of sepsis

TL;DR: Surface receptors expression on neutrophils may be modulated across the continuum of sepsis, and enhanced or decreased expression may be found depending on the receptor considered.
