Journal ArticleDOI

A distinct terminal structure in newly synthesized chondroitin sulphate chains.

TL;DR: In this article, a method was developed for the analysis of non-reducing terminal structure of radiolabeled chondroitin sulphate chains with the aid of N-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulphatase ('terminal 4-SulphATase'), NacetylGalactosamines 6-SULPHATase', 6-sULPHatase, beta-glucuronidase, and beta-N-acetelhexosaminidase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glycosaminoglycan sulfotransferases in human and animal sera.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the appearance of the sulfotransferases in serum is not a fortuitous event due to nonspecific cell death, but the result of an elaborate mechanism for enzyme secretion by a cell or tissue system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Difference between N-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferases from human serum and squid cartilage in specificity toward the terminal and interior portion of chondroitin sulfate.

TL;DR: It appears that the role of the squid sulfotransferase is to synthesize so-called chondroitin sulfate E where over 50% of the interior hexosamine units are 4,6-bis-sulfated.
Journal ArticleDOI

A sulfotransferase-sulfatase system in avian oviduct which catalyzes a conversion of UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfate to the 6-sulfate isomer.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the tubular gland of quail oviduct contains a microsomal multienzyme system which catalyzes a series of sulfation and desulfation of N-acetylgalactosamine residues at the nonreducing terminal position of either sugar nucleotides or polysaccharide chains.
