The Magnetospheric Response to 8-Minute Period Strong-Amplitude Upstream Pressure Variations
David G. Sibeck,Wolfgang Baumjohann,R. C. Elphic,D. H. Fairfield,Joseph F. Fennell,W. B. Gail,Louis J. Lanzerotti,Ramon Lopez,H. Luehr,A. T. Y. Lui,Carol G. Maclennan,R. W. McEntire,Thomas A. Potemra,T. J. Rosenberg,Kazue Takahashi +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a series of brief, strong (delta p/p = 1), dynamic pressure oscillations that occurred in the region upstream of the earth's bow shock during a period of radial interplanetary magnetic field was analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison of ULF fluctuations in the solar wind, magnetosheath, and dayside magnetosphere: 1. Magnetosheath morphology
Mark J. Engebretson,Naiguo Lin,Wolfgang Baumjohann,H. Luehr,Brian J. Anderson,L. J. Zanetti,Thomas A. Potemra,Robert L. McPherron,Margaret G. Kivelson +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared simultaneous data from ISEE 1 and 2 in the upstream solar wind, AMPTE IRM in the subsolar magnetosheath, and AMP TE CCE in the dayside magnetosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison of ULF fluctuations in the solar wind, magnetosheath, and dayside magnetosphere: 2. Field and plasma conditions in the magnetosheath
Naiguo Lin,Mark J. Engebretson,Robert L. McPherron,Margaret G. Kivelson,Wolfgang Baumjohann,H. Luehr,Thomas A. Potemra,Brian J. Anderson,L. J. Zanetti +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a disturbance parameter, R, which is the magnitude of the normalized resultant of unit vectors (calculated from measurements of the magnetic field or the plasma bulk velocity in a time interval), is used to describe the disturbance of the magnetosheath region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Propagation of perturbation energy fluxes in the subsolar magnetosheath: AMPTE IRM observations
TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation properties of perturbation energy fluxes of subsolar magnetosheath fluctuations were studied using magnetic field and plasma measurements from the AMPTE IRM satellite during five intervals in 1984.

A comparison of ULF fluctuations in the solar wind, magnetosheath, and dayside magnetosphere. I - Magnetosheath morphology. II - Field and plasma conditions in the magnetosheath
TL;DR: In this article, simultaneous data from ISEE 1 and 2 in the upstream solar wind, from AMPTE IRM in the subsolar magnetosheath, and from AmPTE CCE in the dayside magnetosphere are used to investigate the properties of the magnetoshesath responsible for the transmission into the magnetosphere the ULF waves generated in the solar wind upstream of a quasi-parallel bow shock.
